Book Description

July 1, 1980
Part One Of Two Parts

In this powerful novel about an aspiring young author's assault on the citadel of New York publishing, Hawke launches his career with an oversized manuscript that becomes an instant success. Toasted by critics and swept along on a tide of popularity, he gives himself over to the lush life that gilds artistic success.

This story makes us the companion of a young writer caught up in the glamour and intrigue of "life at the top" in New York. It suggests the life and career of Thomas Wolfe.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Journey, July 16, 2001
By
This review is from: Youngblood Hawke Part 1 Of 2 (Audio Cassette)
With grand brush strokes and an eye for the smallest detail and emotional nuance Herman Wouk takes us from New York City to Hovey, Kentucky, to the capitals and countrysides of Europe, to Hollywood and Lima, Peru in this exciting saga of a young author who takes the publishing world by storm. Wouk draws his characters meticulously and unforgettably. He is a craftsman of the very first rank, and he rewards his readers amply for their willingness to take the nearly 800 page journey of this book with him. It is not only an entertaining trip, but a valuable look at the difficulties that arise when the demands and expectations of others pile up. Highly recommended.
