Biography

Inspired by the Herman Wouk novel of the same name, Youngblood Hawke was born out of late night creative musings between longtime friends Sam Martin and Simon Katz. Exhausted by two years of touring with their former band and the general turbulence that comes with music industry success, Martin and Katz looked for a more simple creative outlet where they could write and share music with ... Youngblood Hawke is an up-and-coming indie band out of Los Angeles. If you are not familiar with their sound, think Passion Pit-meets-Walk the Moon. This is their first release.

"Youngblood Hawke" (5 tracks; 18 min.) starts with the band's signature song, the irresistable and massive "We Come Running" (with the sing-along chorus "Headed for the open door/tell me what you're waiting for/look across the great divide/soon they're gunna hear/the sound, the sound, the sound/when we come running"). Similar good vibes can be heard on the rest of the EP, with other potential hits being "Start (Hold On") and the closing track "In Our Blood". The other songs on here are "Forever" and "Rootless". I rate this promising debut EP 3.5 stars as it lacks a bit of diversity in sound. Hopefully that will take care of itself when the band releases its highly anticipated full debut album (expected in the first half of 2013).

I had the good fortune of catching Youngblood Hawke in concert recently here in Cincinnati (opening for Passion Pit), and the band put on a blazing 40 min. set that oozed energy from start to finish. They played all of the songs on this EP plus a number of new songs, and live it sounded much better and exciting than on the EP. Can't wait to see these guys live again at some point!

I first heard the song, "We Come Running" when I was on a business trip in South Beach Miami. It played several times on the XM station I was listening too. I loved it. I thought I had written the name of the song and band down somewhere. I lost the paper. Unfortunately I did not hear this awesome song again until recently on a juke box in a Las Vegas bar. I was reminded of this awesome song. I love the melody and words. This song makes me feel happy. I want to incorporate into my work out music. I have purchased the song and album through Amazon. I have great hopes for the album based on the samples available. Youngblood Hawke, I wish your Band incredible luck and opportunities. You have made me a fan!!

I just happened upon YB by accident on a local morning show in Nashville where they were to be the opening act for the Keane show later that same night. Not being a country music fan I was pleasantly surprised when they played and sang without a single twang or voicebreak nor mention of beers, trucks, etc.. Instead was an incredibly big sound, almost choir-like anthems, played like their lives depended on it. I was sold and downloaded the ep. No disappointment.
In fact, at times they remind me of one of my all-time favorite albums from the eighties. Red Box- the Circle and the Square. If you like Youngblood Hawke I recommend you try and get your hands on the Red Box album too. I can't wait to hear more.

All of the songs are this album are well written, well performed, and well produced. The production hints of Phil Spector. Each of the songs on this album stands alone as a great cut and collectively they are a contemporary masterpiece. I hope this is just the beginning of great things to come from Youngblood Hawke.

Saw these guys open for Keane and absolutely loved their style. I wish they had had a better sound guy though because the mix was terrible. I love every song so far and can't wait for the full length album. Really worth catching these guys in concert for the entertainment value alone. They put on a good show. The sync drumming rocks!

I absolutely love Youngblood Hawke. This EP is short and sweet and perfect for when I'm in my car driving somewhere not very far away. I saw them live in concert during SXSW and they sounded just as good. I highly recommend checking them out.

They were on Jimmy Kimmel Live and I had to have the CD. They are a new group with a great sound.
