Jan Small is the editor at website BeautyTopToToe.com with a long standing passion for helping us make the most of what nature gave us. Jan's view is that we can all look great if we care for ourselves, choose makeup and clothes that suit us and learn the best tricks of the beauty trade. There's no need to be a model to look good or spend all day putting on makeup and getting your hair to behave if you know the secrets to looking your best.

Jan has also been a weight loss coach for many years and has heard all the excuses in her time (and she'll be the first to admit, has used many of them herself especially when chocolate cake is on offer!)

She is not a believer in the kind of diets that have you losing weight one day and putting it all (and more) back on the next. She's a believer in changing habits for good so the pounds roll off and stay off.

Jan lives in Scotland with her husband and two children.

I got this book over the weekend hoping for some quick tips on how to look a bit younger now that I am finally getting to a point where I can think of myself again. I got much more than I was expecting.

Perhaps other readers who have spent a lot of time pampering themselves as they got older already know ALL the information within this guide. However, for those of us who have spent our younger years as mothers, employees, and home based workers building a business and now have young grandchildren under foot, this information was needed and desired.

OK, I did know a few things like the color chart but I had that done so long ago it's like another life. I don't even know what my colors are anymore. I would not have thought of it had I not read of it in this book. That is simply one minor example of the information I gleaned from this book.

The advice on what to wear and how to coordinate (or not) your clothes so you don't look old was new advice to me. The pictures that were included were very, very helpful. I, too, wish there had been more but there were certainly enough included to get the point across.

As the time has finally arrived for me to be able to spend a bit of time and money on myself and my looks, I will certainly use the advice given in this guide. I am very glad to have found this book.

I'm planning a romantic weekend away soon and having just turned 40, this title caught my eye! Well it was eye opening to say the least. Every thing that you are not supposed to do, I do - oops. Luckily there is great guidance on what to do instead including cheaper and more expensive options for every budget. Nothing seemed difficult to put into practice - it's just a question of knowing what to look out for and what not to do - information I now have. The clothing and makeup sections were particularly jam packed with useful tips and tricks.

You should check that your clothes, makeup, and hair aren't outdated. Take care of your skin, drink water, get sleep. Well, duh. No major new secrets revealed here.

Thankfully the cost was low for this book. I found the advice to be trivial and repetitive. In my opinion, suggesting that you go to a city and observe women who seem youthful is not a useful tip! The only spark of life I noticed was in the area of facial pampering.

All in all it was not worth my time.

The information is OK, although I don't think it's relevant to anyone under 45. It really tells you how to look more sophisticated and modern rather than younger, or more youthful. It also seems to provide a majority of advice based on the assumption that the reader is overweight, which I am not. My big peeve though, is that there are so many missing pages. I am only about 1/3 of my way through and I have already discovered 6 missing pages. That is way too many. It's frustrating to be interested in a chapter only to find that I don't get to read to the end because the end isn't there, or the middle. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone until they announce that this problem has been fixed.

There is some excellent information in this book for the older woman. The tips inside this book are very helpful, and being an older woman I can certainly use all the help I can get. This book is like having your very own health and beauty therapist on call 24/7.

I read this book and found it to be extremely helpful, especially the section on wardrobe. I had to laugh at myself as I realized how many of those fashion faux pas I have hanging in my closet! I have always been more about comfort rather than style and so I wear my jeans comfy and my shoes flat. I can't wear too high a heel or I will kill myself, but I am going to go and find a nice mid-size pair of shoes and jeans that flatter my figure better the next time I have a night on the town.

I truly appreciate all the helpful advice!

I love these kind of books. I love others telling me how to get it right and how to look pulled together. I am having a harder time seeing my self get older. I loose myself in how to look the age I feel, without looking like I'm trying to be a 30 something gal. Jan just give us reminders of what to do and what not to do. I am really frustrated with the fashion magazines that are published. They all are for young women and nothing much for us older gals. This book really helps to put fashion in focus. This is a great book, full of helpful hints and gentle reminders of what really works best for us women over 40.
