Younger Mama,
By
This review is from: Younger You (Hardcover)
At 32 years old and the mom of an 18 month old, I was looking for something to motivate me to lose those few stubborn extra pounds. I wasn't really expecting to look younger, but to FEEL younger with the extra weight off. I was immediately drawn to Dr. Bravermans belief on the importance of a well balanced "rainbow" diet. I often give my son better quality food compared to what I was puting in my mouth during the day. The rainbow diet is easy to follow and I never run out of things to satisfy my appetite. This book gave me the motivation to eat well everyday, and to take the proper supplements that would "prevent" various "pauses" in the future. I not only have lost weight, but feel so much more energized, and my "mental fog" is lifting. I want to live the healthiest life I can for my family, and this book helped me realize that the Brain and it's chemistry really can effect the future of my wellbeing. As an Acupuncturist, I strongly believe in preventive care, and this book really teaches you how to prevent dis-ease easily at any age! THANK YOU Dr.Braverman for motivating me to be the youngest me possible. This book was a breeze to go thru, and I really enjoyed taking my personal test. I am highly recommending this book to my patients, family and friends.

Without a doubt the most comprehensive book I've found on the holistic practice of medicine. And this book IS about medicine, AND a wholesome "Rainbow Diet", as he calls it (but varied according to your particular malady), AND the use of the far superior bioidentical hormones, AND most important of all, the connection and absolute interdependency of brain and body! There's probably very little in this book that your own various physicians don't already know, but the organization and application of the knowledge certainly appear to me to be a completely different and a far more effective concept. However, it sort of excludes all the specialists. Or so they would probably think. Only GPs need apply. And Oh, if we only had more GPs like this Dr. Eric Braverman! When was the last time your GP ordered blood work to determine ALL of your hormone levels? And what physician does NOT know the importance of adequate and balanced hormones in each patient? The nephrologists will think, "That's not my problem". The orthopedists will think, "That's not my problem". Even the cardiologists will probably think, "That's not my problem." WRONG! And if you ask about vitamin therapy they usually say, "There are plenty of good multivitamins over the counter, by all means it can't hurt for you to try one". And if you ask about herbs? Go on; just ask your doctor what herbs would help your condition. He'll probably act like herbs are either some kind of voodoo, or are totally insignificant. WRONG AGAIN! Dr. Braverman said so. READ IT. You'll like it. It addresses ANY condition you could possibly have, and plenty that you didn't even know that you have. I'm serious. This is preventive medicine at it's best. And it just MIGHT lead you to a much healthier, happier, more productive AND longer life. It can't get much better than that!

Would You Like To Look And Feel Younger?,
This review is from: Younger You: Unlock the Hidden Power of Your Brain to Look and Feel 15 Years Younger (Paperback)
From: BasilAndSpice.com
Don't we all wish to not just appear younger, but to also feel younger? Younger You promises to help the reader unlock the hidden power of your brain to look and feel 15 years younger. The author, Eric R. Braverman, M.D. is the director of the Place for Achieving Total Health (PATH) Medical Center in New York. Younger You has received positive comments from notable doctor-authors: Nicholas Perricone, Isadore Rosenfeld, and David Perlmutter. Younger You is broken into 6 parts: 1. Your ageprint--you're only as old as your oldest part. Disease occurs in stages so catch problems early with suggested ultrasounds for proper treatment. Braverman recommends the usage of bioidentical hormones; supplementation--zinc, fish oil, and others; follow a diet rich in fruits and vegetables; exercise. This section includes ageprint quizzes to help the reader identify problems within the body and begin him on the path to wellness. 2. Your brain as the key--lack of dopamine, a brain-produced chemical, lowers energy, affecting the rest of the body. Braverman explains the correlation between the brain and obesity, offering several possibilities of solution. The seven stages of cognitive decline, the loss of GABA, and the relation of Serotonin to happiness are pointed out and effective methods to counter undesirable conditions are discussed. 3. The overworked cardiovascular system--referred to as "cardiopause" by Braverman, it is the slowing and aging of the heart. An estimated 700,000 Americans will have a heart attack this year. Braverman asserts that the condition can be reversed. The top five risk factors include family history, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol. 4. The modulating systems--includes thyropause (the weakening of metabolism), immunopause (the inability to fight infection) 5. Aging Sexuality--relates to, hormones, menopause for women and andropause for men. 6. Your Aging Frame: Bones, Muscles, and Skin--bone and muscle loss are not inevitable, but must be addressed instead. Key concepts of Younger You: * Conventional medicine is equivalent to an assembly line, only viewing parts of the body for treatment, rather than using an integrative whole-person approach. * Virtually all illness and disease can be detected from the outside. * When one part of the body fails, it signals an aging code to the rest of the body, which responds in kind. * Each part of the body has markers for aging. These are the warning signs. * Diagnostic testing pinpoints the aging code of every organ. Throughout Younger You, Braverman shows the reader which natural supplements and their dosages will help for each condition/disease. He also suggests new research to support testing. A good example from p. 166 "Minor leaks of protein in your urine (albuminuria) is an early indicator of stroke or heart attack." Interspersed, Braverman also refers to various types of food, explaining how certain foods benefit or harm the body. Considered to be a book about wellness, Younger You is also about antiaging. It represents recent discoveries in research which can be directly applied for life-saving benefits. Younger You helps the reader find out what his/her real bodily age is and understand how to act on this knowledge. Just released as a paperback, Younger You has been made more affordable for everyone to reap the benefits of Dr. Eric R. Braverman's knowledge. 5 Stars

I didn't like the book.If you are willing to get a lot of medical tests including a complete head-to-toe ultrasound and if needed take biochemical hormones, antidepressants, anxiety and pain medications, do not worry about the side effects of medications, getting re-tested by your doctor then you're following the author's recommendations. I do hope you have a good insurance plan or the means to pay. I'll be fair. He does write about taking supplements, eating a healthy diet, having good sleep habits, and reducing stress but most of us know that without reading the book. Do your own homework.

One will understand this book much better if he or she has read Braverman's over book, The Edge Effect: Achieve Total Health and Longevity with the Balanced Brain Advantage. This book covers how different Chemical species effect health and how one can alter their body's biochemistry.

Your Personal AgePrint,

This review is from: Younger You (Hardcover)
A few years ago I read The Edge Effect and got impressed with the work of Dr Braverman. Now in "Younger You" I found even more evidence that feeling younger... and getting younger is a feasible option for just about everyone. Each of us can reach for a longer and healthier old age by applying what Dr Braverman outlines in such eloquent way.
The AgePrint worksheet in this book is incredible useful and directs you immediately to the core problems or pauses you may have in aging. To go beyond what is in the book, I found it useful to download the more elaborate AgePrint Worksheet from www.pathmed.com. Reading this book made me feel younger and has changed my priorities!

very disappointed,
This review is from: Younger You: Unlock the Hidden Power of Your Brain to Look and Feel 15 Years Younger (Paperback)
I expected this to be a book on healthy lifestyle, balanced diet maybe some supplements.
Instead I find that the author constantly prescribes hormones. I find this extremely dangerous, I don't think that this is healthy at all to influence your body like this - and in any case it should be done under strict medical control. I feel like this book incites reader to self-medicate with hormones. A random passage from the book: "I immediately placed her on a total dementia-reversing program consisting of several natural hormones: human growth hormone (HGH), natural estrogen, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), calcitonin, and parathyroid." This book might be interesting if you're 50 years or older and feel that you have a serious problem with your ageing. If you think about how to prevent ageing or want to live a healthier lifestyle I don't recommend it.

This review is from: Younger You: Unlock the Hidden Power of Your Brain to Look and Feel 15 Years Younger (Paperback)
The premise of this book is that we are as old as our oldest part. This concept makes sense as it is developed throughout the book. Dr. Braverman gives an ageprint quiz to help the reader pinpoint their perspective age in 6 categories. I thought the quiz was interesting however I realized that the quiz was flawed when at age 53 I scored an age of 0 years in my cardiovascular system. The author had good points along with ones that had serious oversimplifications. I enjoyed the book but didn't totally trust the research of the author.

I first read Susan Sommer's book breakthrough. She mentioned and talks with Dr. Eric Braverman in her book, so I ordered his book. Both of these books were so helpful to me to understand what's going on in my body, what to eat and not eat, changes in my lifestyle for a healther body and mind, and so much more! I made several of the changes they suggested starting 1 year ago, I am thinking better, feeling so much better, excerising easier, happier with the total new me now. oh, I also took off 30 lbs in the process of my changes. I feel and look years younger and everyone tells me the same.

A personal trainer,

This review is from: Younger You (Hardcover)
I love this book for the way it goes at the idea of "quick fitness" that everyone is overpowered with on television. The same meatheads that used all kinds of pills, powders and other ways to do what they wouldn't just work to get are the ones leading the charge.
Dr Braverman is taking it right where it needs to be. If you want to be good and get better then start to work and keep it going. Some use the term motivation but what we all call motivation is really nothing but the most hated word in the english language - discipline. Thanks for the great book Dr Braverman. |
