Surprisingly Underrated 1989 Classic,
By Rahmel Strawberry "Music Conissour" (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Youngest in Charge (Audio CD)
I really don't know where I should start with this review...I can remember when i was 7 years old, My dad had just gotten home from work holding this cd in his hands with a grin on his face, then he put the cd in...I can remember dancing to how great this cd was. To this day one of my favorite hip hop songs of all times is "I Got It Made". Its too bad that this album was forgotten, it deserves to be among the classics like "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back", "Straight Outta Compton", "All Eyez On Me", "Ready To Die", and etc. So the final thing I wunna say to all u young hip hop heads out there trying to figure out whether to get this joint or not. Cop It and discover the REAL sense of Hip Hop Musick.

One of the best hip-hop albums of all time,
By A Customer
This review is from: Youngest in Charge (Audio CD)
This is an album I will never forget. When I think of the year of 89 many of these songs come to mind. This is just a young rapper with strictly tight rhymes. Not the hard-core, gangsta, strong base-lines or kick drums (although a little of all of that is there),his gig was just out-rhyming someone; and he out-did most in that era and even more today.

I have been loking for this classic a long time. 80's were the groundbreaking for some really tight artist that are still being sampled today. Of them all I liked this one. I got it made and "akshun" along with a lot of other was cool. Not all of the cuts were good, but the ones that were, have me looking for this CD everywhere. Shaq did a remake of I got it made and it was worth getting his CD jus to here that funky beat again!

Top Tier,

This album is top tier. It really is a shame that because this album didn't drop until the end of the golden age of rap that it tends to be overlooked. This album predates the ugliness that rap has become. The bragadocio that is the essence of Hip Hop is present minus the violent, overly compensative arrogance of the "Clear Channel" rappers. Production and presentation are a blend of old school East Coast and late 80's-90's West. Smart, humorous Lyrics highlight this eclectic masterpiece. I can't say enough about this album. This album belongs in the pantheon of rap albums, recorded by a 15 year old artist decades ahead of his time. This album represents an art form in its final throws of genius, a final entry in the journal of a lost generation.

The way Special Ed puts together his metaphors is tight, as well his delivery and message.

One of da great classics in hip hop history,
By DRS 1974 (LOUISVILLE, KY) - See all my reviews

One of the most slept on albums in the history of rap. Listen to the clever wordplay and metaphors in songs like The Mission, Think about it, and the classic I got it made and you can see why Special Ed was nice. The entire album is excellent overall and true hip hop fans should have this one in their collection.

I finally recovered what was lost from my early rap collection(although it was on cassette tape and of course CD is superlative). Special ED was a very young, articulate, and cocky rapper! His diction was probably in the top 5 of all the rapper's of the era (you could understand every word without straining your ears or constantly replaying portions of the CD). Brilliant production for the era. I also don't believe that Special ED received the accolades that he should have for his work. This is a must have for rap afficionado's, especially for anyone whom grew up on the east coast(specifically the New York tri-state area)during the era.
