5.0 out of 5 stars The best work glove PERIOD.
I use these gloves 5 days a week. I have tried many other brand gloves and these triple the life expectancy of any other pair that I have experienced. Part of my work includes picking up many rugs throughout the day. Normal work gloves get holes in the fingertips within a week. The Youngstown XT's last several months. They are well worth the price. In fact, several...

3.0 out of 5 stars Wanted To Give 5 Stars
I wanted to give these gloves 5 stars because overall I was very pleased with them; however, the stitching at the thumb/hand palm split after just 10 days of use! Being a farmer, my gloves are important tools, so I'm careful not to snag them on nails, hooks, or other sharp edges. What happened is that the glove split where the terrycloth meets the leather palm, and I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Wanted To Give 5 Stars, July 30, 2010

I wanted to give these gloves 5 stars because overall I was very pleased with them; however, the stitching at the thumb/hand palm split after just 10 days of use! Being a farmer, my gloves are important tools, so I'm careful not to snag them on nails, hooks, or other sharp edges. What happened is that the glove split where the terrycloth meets the leather palm, and I believe that stitch is the Achilles Heel of the design. The cloth is a soft, thin fabric and is sewn directly to the leather pad, creating a situation in which the cloth can "easily" tear away from the stitch. That is what happened in my case. Too bad to, because it's super convenient to be able to wipe my brow with the terrycloth. My wife sewed up the seam, but I can't imagine it will hold for more than a week.

If it wasn't for the tear, I would have given this product 5 stars. The sizing is accurate, the fit is very comfortable, and there is plenty of protection and grip in the palm and fingers. The fingers are flexible, and I am able to work relatively well with small items such as clasps, nails, etc... I work with heavy duty chains, rope, leather straps, and hoses, and have been pleased with the performance of the gloves. They have been soaked with water with no ill effects, and they breathe well and dry quickly.

My wife is encouraging me to return the gloves, but I hate hassling with that kind of thing. I am going to purchase a pair of Deerskin gloves at my local tack shop, and after a couple weeks I'll update this review and give a comparison.

***REVISED 7/2011***
I have purchased two pair of these gloves since last July, and I have been very happy with them. In fact, I'm buying two more pair right now to get me through next winter. I work in the dirt a lot, shoveling, hand digging in wet rock, land clearing, etc... I beat the tar out of these gloves virtually every day of summer (wet and dry), and I still only go through two pair per year. Yeah, they eventually fall apart, but what wouldn't under these conditions? Bottom line, they are very comfortable and pretty darn durable. I would give 4 stars if I could.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Work Glove for Carpenters, June 29, 2009
These gloves are well made, long lasting, and very comfortable. This is my third pair, I still use the first two pairs for chainsaw work and gardening, but they are a little too shredded for carpentry. Youngstown has great customer service, so rest assured they will stand behind their product. These gloves allow for great dexterity when handling stainless steel finish nails, and good protection when handling a sawzall. Check out the general utility version for lightweight interior work, the winter gloves and winter gauntlet for all your outdoor projects when you need to stay warm.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good gloves, fickle quality, January 7, 2012

This review is from: Youngstown Glove 03-3050-78-M Pro XT Performance Glove Medium, Gray (Tools & Home Improvement)
The first pair of these gloves were my absolute favorite. I work in highway construction, tying rebar, pouring concrete, twisting steel pipe together, pulling wire, etc. In short, the gloves take a beating. The first pair of these lasted six months, which is good for the abuse. My hands were comfortable, and well protected. The second pair I purchased ripped at the wrist within a month, even though I only used them at home. These aren't cheap, so I expected better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tradesmans Review, August 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is an honest opinion of the Pro XT glove.
As a tradesman working in the building industry carrying out all tasks from welding, carpentry to demolition, I found the pro XT glove exceeded my expectations. Surprisingly they fitted better the more they were worn. The sizing chart is accurate although the thumb does feel a bit loose at the tip which is a slight problem otherwise I happy I purchased several pairs of this glove. Definitely recommend this brand.

Like these gloves perfect for my job. I liked the old design better, but I guess everything changes. They do make your hands sweat, but that is better than ruined hands. I would recommend these to anyone that has to handle lumber, metal, or any rough materials.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stick with leather..., February 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We needed to find something to go with our Kindle purchase so we could get the interest free financing for over $150 purchases, so I picked out a few pairs of Youngstown gloves in multiple styles.

I really like the way all styles of their gloves feel compared to a traditional leather work glove. They have a nice flex to them and they allow your hands to breathe while working (no more soaked gloves). I have not had a chance to use them a whole lot so far so cannot attest to normal everyday working conditions, but here is a report thus far.

I first used them to move a super heavy platform bed and sheets of plywood. I swear this glove gave me at least 50% more lifting power because of the grip and comfort of them. They are excellent on plywood edges and allow you to get a really good grip in any direction you need. A+

I then used them to unload 3 pallets of thin pavers off of a flatbed truck, manually, from one pallet on the truck to another pallet on the ground. The gloves are definitely not for any kind of stone or mason work. The edges (which are everywhere, like patchwork) have seriously frayed and the stitching between the index finger and thumb has busted loose. While the frying seems to be just a cosmetic issue for now, at least until the fraying reaches the actual seem line itself, then it may become a problem. Not so good for heavy duty use. From those 2 hours of unloading pavers, the gloves looked like they had have been used for a year of heavy duty work already.

I wouldn't call them crap, but there is no comparison to real leather durability. I was expecting this particular glove to outperform their other gloves because of the higher price tag, but I would say it is about even with their cheaper gloves as far as durability. The high tag is for looks, not for function in my opinion. If you have a Home Depot or Lowes, they sell VERY similar gloves with an almost identical price tag and look.

Not a bad glove, not a great glove. An okay glove.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong Rigging Gloves, October 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These gloves are perfect for anyone in the theatre/entertainment production field! Very durable and it's clear they will last a long time.

It's nice to find a truly XL-sized glove that actually fits. I was a bit weary of purchasing online due to having large hands, but these fit with no problem. Adjustable velcro wrist strap is helpful with this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Performance, yes; performance protection, meh, August 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These are great gloves that are going to hold up. I can tell that already. And these gloves are not marketed as reinforced or armored, I acknowledge that. But I do not feel particularly protected wearing them. Don't get me wrong. I feel like any thorn is going to have a fight on its hand, and that maybe I am not too old for a motorcross bike (I am). But any carnage beyond a thistle, and I may be in trouble.

So, the lesson? Get these gloves for basic protection with maximum mobility. Do not purchase these gloves for any additional protection.
