5.0 out of 5 stars BEST BUY I CAN FIND
I am a carpenter in Yonkers and I have tried everyone of these new kinds of gloves in the last few years. Mechanix, BucketBoss, Ringers, Ironclad, MechPro and Craftsman. None of them last as long as the General Utility by Youngstown. If you are going to pay $20 for a pair of gloves they better last. And I have been happy with these!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great gloves, they will wear out quickly
I love these gloves, they are so much nicer than a standard leather work glove that fits loosely. With these gloves, you don't lose the dexterity that you do with the bulky leather work gloves. You'll still be able to screw something in without having to take off the gloves, which you'll find next to impossible with the leather work gloves.

Love that they...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gloves, February 11, 2007

This review is from: Youngstown Glove 03-3060-80-L General Utility Plus Performance Glove Large, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
I don't know where I got my first pair of these gloves, but I don't like any others besides these. I've been doing a lot of renovation work from framing, tiling, drywall, siding, flooring, etc... These gloves work well for all applications. The palms and fingers have the reinforced material, and the back is just stretchy material. I never feel as though my hands get hot or sweaty. I can wear them all day and forget I've got them on. I've worn out several pair through general mistreatment, but I have to buy more. I've tried the HomeDepot versions, Lowes versions, and general cheap kinds. These are better than all those put together. The fit is great. Like another reviewer stated, they're are hard to find locally, and they are kind of pricey for gloves, but I think they are worth it.

Love that they were machine washable. Hands do get sweaty in them but I never really noticed it, you don't get the clammy feeling that you get with a cowhide glove.

After about 6-8 months of homeowner use, stacking wood, putting in wooden fence posts, raking leaves, etc. the gloves began getting holes in the fingers. Not sure yet if I'll replace with another set of these or look for a set of gloves from another manufacturer.

These gloves seem nice and fit perfectly but after using them for 7 days, three fingers had torn on the side rendering them useless. I'm not sure of the definition of "general utility" gloves but I used them for simple and basic use. I will say, I was carrying lumber and pipe at times but not extended use. I have gloves purchased in a 10 pack, and cheap, that last longer then these. I had no issues with them when I was painting though so I guess that might be the extent of their use. I hate giving a low rating but I feel $16 for a pair of gloves that last 7 days warrants the rating. Do not take this review as a knock on Youngstown gloves as I will make another purchase of Youngstown but kick it up to a heavy duty glove.

5.0 out of 5 stars These Gloves FIT!, March 7, 2006

I am 6'6" tall. I have hands the size of small canoe paddles. On most XL gloves the fingers are about 1/2 to 3/4 as long as my fingers. These gloves fit. They are extremely comfortable. They seem to have a great balance between toughness and dexterity. I just used them to put up a fence, really splintery wood, no splinters. I was able to easily retrieve screws, nails etc from my tool belt. I will definately buy them again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect fit, May 12, 2007

I have a hard time finding gloves that fit my wide and stubby fingered hands. I'm a firefighter, and I go through gloves very, very quickly. I ordered these gloves on hopes that I would eventually find the perfect glove for me. I could not have been more surprised and excited to find that the gloves not only fit perfectly, but are tough and hard working as well. I use these gloves on the fire ground for clean up (wet and dirty), overhaul ( VERY wet and dirty, usually with lots of odd debris), and loading hundreds of feet of wet LDH / large diameter hose. The nice soft patch of cloth on the backside of the thumb is a nice touch to wipe sweat from your face or eyes. I highly recommend these gloves as "Fire Ground Tested".

5.0 out of 5 stars Best work gloves I've used, not to mention pretty inexpensive, May 7, 2009

I work on film/commercial shoots where a good pair of gloves is generally looked upon as an invaluable asset. These are probably the best gloves I have used on set and I recommend them to everyone I know in need of a new pair. They're tough and fit comfortably, sort of like batting gloves with a more rugged edge to them. The best feature are the fingertips, mainly because they are tough enough to withstand constant use without wearing out which is the problem with a lot of workgloves I've seen used on the job. The first pair of these I had, I lost on a job and I immediately ordered a pair to replace them just because I liked them that much. I'd recommend these for just about anything that requires work gloves as they are well crafted and inexpensive to boot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gloves, Hands Down., June 3, 2006

These are the best gloves I've worn. They're comfortable, dextrous, and really stand up to the abuse I've given them. Looks like they've raised their prices a bit and redesigned them from when I first wrote this review, but if they still function like they did before, then they're still worth it.

The hard synthetic-leather patches never feel like they limit my handle on things, but keep both the gloves and my hands from getting splinters or other shards stuck in them.

I love the little terry-cloth bit on the back of the thumb (where I don't get much wear anyway) perfect for wiping dust and grime off my face. It's the little things.

They're hard to find in the local hardware stores nowadays. Not sure why, I love these things. Granted, if you're going to mostly be doing auto-work, you probably want to look at the Mechanix line of gloves, which are suited specifically for that use (and you can't argue with Nascar pit crews). But for tougher jobs, wood, masonry, whatever, these are great.

Hands-down, a great pair of gloves.

I am a landscaper who purchased these gloves with the intention of using them daily at work. The first time I wore them was during a saturday of work around my house. After a few hours of moving some stone for a wall I am building and raking some leaves, I noticed two tears along the seams on both middle fingers. The seam along my left index finger was also beginning to tear. I may have been putting some serious stress on the gloves as I was moving some of the larger pieces of stone but was surprised to see them ripping so soon. Very expensive throw away gloves, wouldn't recommend buying if you will be doing and hard work.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, August 30, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
That you see in the picture is not what is in the description. When I contacted them reguarding this they disagreed with me and said I could return them providing I paid shipping. Why should I pay for shipping for a product that was misrepresented. I'm in the construction trade and buy about 20 pairs of these gloves a year and the gloves pictures are CLC Custom Leather Craft Tradesman Gloves not Youngstown General Utility Glove. The CLC glove is far superior and lasts about twice as long.
