Good fit. Arrived with a bad stitch on one finger, recvd a 20% standard rebate from AMZ, sewed by hand the bad seam. The warning label in the glove reads "Not Cut-Proof, Puncture Proof,Fire Retardant or Heat-Resistant. Do Not Expose Near Open Flames, high heat, Sparks or Arc Zones. Do Not Use While Operating Power Machinery". One might ask what these gloves are good for. I dunno.. 4 stars because they fit well and have a good grip, and for the price they better wear well. I assume the Kevlar will be a plus factor handling brush and old lumber. UPDATE 5/09: Wundaful cleaning up the Raspberry patch!! No problemo messing with thorny canes. UPDATE 12/3/09: After nine months of gardening, fire wood sawing and stacking, hard use in general, no sign of wear on the work surfaces of the gloves. Usually a lessor glove that I have used for identical applications, would have worn out the left hand glove.

My husband and I have a weekend wood-cutting business. Typically, we cut about 20 cords of firewood over a 3-month period. With all the chainsawing, chain-sharpening, wood-splitting and wood-stacking we do, I usually have to replace my leather gloves every 2 weeks because I've worn holes in the fingertips. Although I've only been using these Youngstown kevlar gloves for the past few weeks, they are holding up beautifully -- MUCH better than leather, and much more comfortable, too. Another plus with these gloves is that since they're not made of leather, they don't suck all the moisture from my hands, leaving my skin feeling like sandpaper, which leather gloves always do. I LOVE them, and from now on will only buy these gloves.

Gloves seem great so far, but as stated they do run small. I also always wear a medium and have the same issue of them being far too tight in the thumb and fingers. The guide you print from their website put me as a small, so I figured I'd still be okay with the medium - wrong - almost to the point of being uncomfortable and I think large would be too big. You can certainly feel the durability of these things and I feel a little safer thinking of the next time a knife may accidentally slip.

good value,

nice set of gloves. i've owned several similar gloves from other companies, though these seem better constructed. finger and palm grips are VERY grippy, except maybe on perfectly smooth surfaces. haven't tested out the cut resistance, since i don't want to cut up the new gloves, but i hope it might help at least RESIST cuts. will be doing some heavy work with these to test them, though they were bought instead of similar "tactical" gloves which were more expensive. would probably have gotten 5 initial stars, but the size seems to run small. i ALWAYS wear a medium, but these are just a little tight and stiff, especially in the thumb. have been loosening up though after one or two uses. overall, i think a very good value.

When I purchased these cut-resistant gloves, I was looking for hand protection to tackle the really tough jobs in my backyard. I was not disappointed. These gloves look and feel tough. While the backs and the cuffs of the gloves are made of stretchable Spandex and the rest of the gloves synthetic leather, the palms, the undersides of the fingers, and the fingertips are extensively reinforced with thick & gritty material. The insides of the gloves are lined with Kevlar. The backs of the thumbs are covered with terry cloth. Supposedly, I can wipe the sweat off my brow with them, but I never did; I preferred paper towels. There are Velcro bands at the cuffs to better secure the gloves on my hands.
Awhile back, I fixed the cover of my wooden dove feeder in my backyard and I was wearing these Youngstown gloves for the first time. They fitted my hands snugly (perhaps a tad too much), so much so that I was able to handle the screws with my gloved fingers. I did not see any damage to my Youngstown gloves after the job was done. They were as tough as the seller described them.

I have worked in several pairs of heavy gloves and this is my favorite pair. They fit best and are the most comfortable. I highly recommend them.

If you're going to be doing normal rough work around the house, these gloves will probably be enough. But, if you need them for the really nasty, thorny jobs, look for something tougher. I bought them to work with bull brier, moving sharp rocks and a few other chores that both cut and puncture. They worked fairly well with the rocks, though it didn't take long to cut through the leather. The briers, on the other hand, were a different story. They went right through between the leather. Not good.
If you're going to work with heavy thorns, I would recommend a double-thick hide glove. That's what I'm going back to.

Cheap gloves, Youngstown does not stand behind "Unconditional Guarantee".,

I purchased these gloves in June 2011, and except for a weekend session putting in a couple of new exterior doors, they sat on my workbench for the remainder of the record-heat Texas summer.
When the cooler weather of the Fall finally rolled around a few weeks ago, I broke them out to do some yard work. I chopped wood, moved paver stones, chain-sawed dead trees and moved them by hand, seeded my lawn, spread compost with a shovel, pulled thorny vines and bushes, raked leaves, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary for normal lawn care on a large lot. I would say that I put a solid 40-50 hours of work with them in that time. I was really pleased with them until after about two weeks of part-time use, I looked down and my finger was sticking out of a hole in the gloves. I kept using them and by the end of the day, they were falling apart (I will post pictures as well). I was pretty disappointed by this, so I went to their website to look up the warranty info. Their site has an "Unconditional Guarantee" that reads ( [...]) : "Each customer has a different belief for the life expectancy of their glove. Furthermore, it is not uncommon that the glove you have selected is not a match to the job you are performing. We stand behind our gloves 100%. Therefore, we offer an Unconditional Guarantee. If you are not satisfied with your Youngstown gloves, we will replace the pair or work with you to get you into the right model. " Given this iron-clad statement, I emailed Youngstown and asked what the next step was. The response I got wasn't exactly what I expected. It read: "Have you contacted Amazon? It's a little tough considering it has been 4 months. Can you send pictures of the gloves?" I considered this entirely unsatisfactory and completely contrary to their "Unconditional Guarantee". A $25 pair of gloves wasn't really worth arguing with a customer service that rebuked me on the first attempt, so I contacted Amazon. Amazon kindly (and not surprisingly, Amazon is great) reimbursed me 80% of the purchase price. I considered that fair since these gloves lasted about as long as the $5 pairs I usually get from a big box store. In summary- stay away from these gloves and the Youngstown Gloves company. They are not worth the price at all, and the company does not stand behind their product. I would give these gloves no stars if possible. |
