Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

In this book, revised from his first edition of the same title ( LJ 9/8/83), White uses an informal style to update lay readers on new developments in the diagnosis and treatment of structural problems and disease of the spine. When considering only his coverage of spinal disorders, White, a leading orthopedic surgeon, has few peers. However, aggressive rehabilitation of back muscle injury by either the patient or a therapist is given little attention. A more thorough treatment of such rehabilitation can be found in Constance Bean's The Better Back Book ( LJ 4/1/89). But for those whose backs ache from disorders of the spine itself, White's book is superior. Recommended for public libraries.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exellant source of information for low back pain sufferers, October 6, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Your Aching Back: A Doctor's Guide to Relief (Paperback)
The information presented is really important for low back pain sufferers. Heightened awareness of body mechanics and an understanding of behavior that is likely to result in serious back injury is a very big deal for most Homo sapiens. I would like to see more self help information and more guidance in physical therapy.

this book was very helpful to my husband ,who has stenosis of the lower back. Gave him info that hadn't been given to him before. helped him understand pain management better. I also found a section on the type of arthritis I have that was very informative. Glad I bought this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Aching Back Review, March 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered the book after finding an earlier edition (1993) in my resident library.
i was most interested in surgical topics. This book addressed artificial disc replacement in more depth. On the downside, the earlier edition had a few paragraphs on rhizotomy (severing a nerve); rhizotomies continue to be performed
and a surgeon I visited recommended the procedure for me. The current edition had only one reference in the glossary. Also, the diagrams could be larger and more detailed. Overall though, I think it is worthwhile book for anyone with back problems.
