5.0 out of 5 stars For the Inner Iconoclast, October 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Your Answers Questioned: Explorations for Open Minds (Hardcover)
This wonderful book opens with one of the best one-liners on bigotry I've ever seen:
"The less people know, the more stubbornly they know it."
And it gets even better from there. "Life is fulfilled only through longings, never through ambitions." Every topic appropriate and inappropriate for dinner conversation comes under scrutiny in this little volume of short quotes, from sex to politics to religion.
A digestible introductory primer for those who are new to the spiritual provocateur Osho, it is illustrated beautifully with black & white photos and presents a broad range of his offbeat and somehow haunting perspectives on life, the universe and everything.

5.0 out of 5 stars My darkness made light (of)?, December 26, 2005
This review is from: Your Answers Questioned: Explorations for Open Minds (Hardcover)
In my living room, Osho's works fill a whole shelf. This is one of the best. It's the sort of book you can read and re-read, maybe once a year, and keep getting something new out of it every time.

This book consists of short meditations, each of which stands alone. I like that, because I have a short attention span, and I am an impatient reader. I like to read brief, concise passages and then ponder them, one by one. This book is perfect for that.

Reading Osho's work is like panning for gold. You must search through a lot of grit. Then a gleaming nugget appears! You store it in your mind, and hope that as you continue to gather and store such little bits of spiritual gold, you are building a treasure stash that will serve you in time of need.

I've spent a lot of time reading Osho's work, and it has mellowed me out. This particular book is easy reading (unlike some of Osho's other work, which can be esoteric), and intense (like all of Osho's work). It makes good sense. Maybe, for some people, it will make too much sense. Spinmeisters will not likely find anything of use here.

If you love challenging yourself to discover more, be more, understand more, and live more of life, then `Your Questions Answered' will not let you down.

Osho has an undeniable gift that we are fortunate enough to receive, even after he departed physical life. This book is entirely unique, with an edge that will open your eyes, heart and mind to all aspects of life, and how you fit into the big picture, including how you view yourself. Do you believe you are magnificent and irreplaceable? If not, it's time to read this book.

Perhaps one of the greatest philosophers of our time, Osho continues to challenge us to challenge ourselves, and the possibilities of all that surround us.
This book is a joy to read. Truly mind opening and highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Witty, Remarkable, Buy In Bulk, August 29, 2006

You know those books you pick up, they're small, have witty and thought provoking remarks inside and you find yourself turning back to them in times of boredom, happiness and concern? That is this book.

'Your Answers Questioned' takes ordinary thought and puts a new spin on a zen/buddhist/Christian look on life. It's calming, inspiring and funny. If I could buy a dozen copies, I would distribute them easily among family and friends who would equally see the gem of a book this is.

Buy it? Absolutely! Buy an extra for yourself. If you ever lend it out... I don't think you'll get it back.

5.0 out of 5 stars A collection of insightful thoughts..., June 25, 2007
By
This review is from: Your Answers Questioned: Explorations for Open Minds (Hardcover)
This book consists of small (paragraph/1-2 pages) pieces of wisdom from Osho. It is not a question/answer type of book even though the title might seem to suggest so. If you are looking for a book with lengthy discussions on specific topics, then this is not the book you want (in that case I suggest The Book of Secrets by Osho).

I am giving this book 5 stars because I have found so many insightful thoughts (70+) I would like to keep referring back to and contemplate on. The snippets of wisdom are organized by topic (Truth/Consequences, Mind Games, The Morning After, At Home, In Love, Wholehearted, Yes and No, In Wonder, etc..).

One of my favorites pieces comes from the Are You Ready (Intro) section:
"There has never been a person like you before, there is nobody else like you right now in the whole world, and there will never be anybody like you. Just see how much respect existence has paid to you. You are a masterpiece-unrepeatable, incomparable, utterly unique." -Osho

This is one of the first books by Osho that I purchased, and its given me a glimpse of a wide range of topics to explore. The concise, yet intriguing and insightful collection of thoughts in this book have been truly mind-opening for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go ahead....try to arue......, November 6, 2007
This review is from: Your Answers Questioned: Explorations for Open Minds (Hardcover)
Osho will use common sense, logic, and perfectly crafted unusual context to force you into a state of understanding that you didnt know existed within yourself. Its as if he speaks straight PAST your ego into your soul. This book is a true thinker that should be passed out to all of those that try to plant their beliefs into our minds and souls and have no idea that there is a part of their existence that they have lost touch with since being born and crafted by society into who they are. I thank existence for allowing this level of thought into our era....peace always... Sedat Seals Austin Texas

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful bits of advice, can fall short occasionally, March 15, 2005

As you may be too, I was atracted by Osho's book because of its title. It is one of those books that you can't stop thinking of. "Such a smart title!" I kept thinking to myself. Well, the title is not the only smart thing about it. Reading through Osho's "Your Answers Questioned" I was constantly reminded of some of the thoughts that pop up in your face as you read authors such as Richard Bach or Paulo Coelho (two of my favorite writers, by the way). They are just so wise, you almost feel like an idiot for not having "gotten" some of their pearls of wisdom before!

So, why 4 stars only? I must say, as much as I enjoyed it (and actually continue to... it's more of a permanent reference, rather than a one-time read), there are pages where I cannot avoid but feel that the author fell short... like there's not that much depth into some of the elements he presents. But this is not an excessive issue. For the most part, the book comes in like a fascinating questioning process of some of the things we take for granted and/or we never question.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blistering truths, January 16, 2009

As always Osho corners our comfortable assumptions and lays waste to them. The book is an absolute treasure trove of direct simply worded, cutting insights that if one is truly listening, attentive, make it almost impossible to go on with the pretense that we are actually "living" or in any valid relationship with true "life".
Osho's only error, that I see, is when he purports to "know" and goes on to propose, precisely how a woman would like to have sex with a man and how a man might set about the sex act--to a woman's satisfaction.
As a rule, the woman should be on top, says Osho. The woman should be aggressive, the aggressor, while the man remains still and passive. What?? Osho is not a woman. Neither is he possessed of a woman's body or the particular psyche (sensual and spiritual), associative to and inherent to experience as a female body. One wonders how such a brilliant mind as Osho could've missed this subtle point that "what a woman wants" might be better left to a woman to say.
Be careful women who read this particular advice of Osho's; as a woman I perceive it erroneous. A woman's body isn't designed to assert itself physically over a man's--for long. Contrary to popular film depictions of women jumping about kicking and beating every man in sight ala Angelina Jolie, the female body as suggested by its natural design, must achieve its ends more or less passively.
Osho makes reference to the Karma Sutra and its eighty or more sexual positions, but then goes on to state explicitly that the woman should fall on top a man and take her own pleasure, while the man simply lays there trying not to get worked up--reverse missionary!?
Some of Osho's advice on sex and romance can be dubious and warrants careful weighing.
No doubt it's okay to be "on top" now and then but lest we women be stuck taking on an aggressive posture in bed too, consider that a man is designed to handle the heavy work more often than not and a woman might expect some skill from him to boot.
