Book Description

July 1, 2011
The Christian journey is no easy path. Yet many believers suffer from false assumptions that Christians are supposed to have it all together, that the walk of faith should be one of comfort and ease, and that difficulties come solely from mistakes or unfaithfulness. In Your Average Joe Unplugged, Joseph Schneller voices inner struggles of faith that resonate broadly among Christians. He writes for those tired of the canned answers, for everyday believers desiring to live in faith amidst the joys and pains, the responsibilities and tragedies of life. Through 30 daily devotionals and a half-dozen humor articles, he presents honest, often humorous encouragement for your Christian pilgrimage through this fallen world. And all throughout he shows how, by Christ s grace, our everyday lives can have eternal impact.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Anything but average! Exceptionally warm and witty devotionals interspersed with excellent humor columns. --James N. Watkins, Columnist, Author, humor textbook Writing with Banana Peels

Joe Schneller sees the profound in the simple, the eternal in the ordinary, and thus catches glimpses of God s grace at work in everyday life where we spend most of our time. Behind the humor is keen insight into trusting, loving, and obeying God. --Gerald L. Sittser, Theologian; Author of Water from a Deep Well

The author finds victory through faith and gut-level logic...a brand of street-smart theology that is very appealing. --Dr. Dennis E. Hensley, Author of Man to Man

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Average December 13, 2011
By Shane
Your Average Joe Unplugged offers a refreshing blend of honesty and humility in this daily devotional. There is no substitute for real world life experience when addressing the doubt and struggles we all face. Average Joe is brave enough to step into the limelight and expose doubt and fears. After drawing the reader in with honest vulnerability, Your Average Joe then has the wisdom to offer refreshment and hope from God's Word.
One of my favorite observations of Average Joe is "Your Today's Encouragement". This offers both practical application and a spiritual growth moment. It is like Your Average Joe offers you a cup of coffee and says, "Ok, now you understand what God has for you, what are you going to do with it?"
Your Average Joe has a finger on the pulse of the American public and that is revealed in his careful writing of "Today's Prayer". Many Americans struggle with prayer. Your Average Joe offers prayers that effectively voice being tired, worn out, beaten up, and discouraged. Then the prayer gently shifts to recognition of God's grace and mercy. There are layers of truth and encouragement written into each prayer.
By the time you finish the Your Average Joe 30 day devotional, you will know God better and have a more clear understanding of how much He loves you.

4.0 out of 5 stars I guess I'm not Average November 22, 2011
By Von
Reading this book brought back to me, not for the first time, an understanding that I am not 'average'. "Your Average Joe, Unplugged' is a series of vignettes/devotionals that attempt to reach out to the 'average' American middle aged male and relate God's Word to their lives. Being rather profoundly out of the 'average' for American middle aged males I found myself watching this foreign country with fascination.

The theology in this book is a bit shallow, but I don't think it was ever intended to be a theological treatise. Instead it is a direct emotional appeal to its audience... an appeal from the author's life: his relationships, fears, hopes and dreams... an appeal that is meant to direct them to the answers that the author has found in God's Word. The writing is excellent and the chapters (no doubt in a fashion that appeals to the 'Average' Joe) are short and easily readable.

For all of the average, American, middle age, 'average' Joe's out there... who are struggling to be Christians in the middle of job crises, relationship struggles, and life-fears, I think I can recommend this book. Now someone just needs to write one for me :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Average Joe Unplugged Review November 20, 2011
I wasn't quite sure when I first ordered this book on what to expect. However, when I opened it and began to read I couldn't stop laughing. He has a comical view on every aspect of this book. It hits close to home for those who have been without a job and wrestling with the idea of their faith. The book really made you feel closer to God after reading throgh it a bit. After reading it, I know I was happy to pass this book along to whomever I could. I was thrilled with it completely. I was so glad that I got the book. I'd tell you in a heart beat to go get this book today! Add it to your library. It would make a great Christmas gift for any man wrestling with what to do with his life. I gave this book five stars. I'd like to also thank BookCrash.com who gave me the opportunity to read it. Thank you!
