If I were alive in 1990 I would have bought 3 CDs. "Mariah Carey", "Wilson Phillips", and "I'm Your Baby Tonight". This CD is truly Whitney's best. Each of the songs are so unique and great to dance to or just ponder over. "I'm Your Baby Tonight" is the dancey-romantic song of the album (every album has one) while "All the Man I Need" is the slow romantic song (another essential of any album). "I Belong To You" is the best and most underrated track on the album. "Who Do You Love" is another great of this album. Surprisingly "We Didn't Know" with Stevie Wonder isn't the best duet Whitney's ever done. "My Name is Not Susan" is a funny song, while "Anymore" is another album jewel. This was Whitney's last studio album for 8 years, but it filled the gap perfectly. Bottom Line: While many don't like this album, it's Whitney's best!

I know I will lose some helpful reviews here, maybe maybe not, but This is the best Album Whitney ever released. When this came out, I remember my mom and me rushing out to Target to buy it. We paid like 10 bucks for the cassette, cuz we didn't graduate to CD's until 1993. We played it all the way home, then rushed to continue it on the stereo inside. We didn't dislike one track. I still don't dislike one track here. This was a Family Favorite until it was eaten up in the car's tape deck. I cried that day. My sister found me a copy of the CD at a garage sale for a quarter. I was shocked at the price, and have had the same copy since 1995. I cherish this album and here, I plan to share my thoughts of the songs, and how they are in my opinion...

1)I'm Your Baby Tonight: A great tough opener, no more wanting to dance with somebody...only dancing she wants to do is in the sheets it sounds like...and for good reason, a good girl is only good for a while. The temptation is too much to bare, hence the lyric "From the moment you touched me, I was ready to die...I've never been fatal, you're my first time" For a first single it was an across the board smash and lies very unappreciated in her catalog.

2)My Name Is Not Susan: Another tough song, shedding the pop image attached to her from earlier dance hits. This track has her angry again from matters of the heart. The beat is once again strong and funky, still sounds fresh nearly 20 years later!

3)All The Man I Need: This was the first ballad single from the album, very brooding reminding me of at-the-time labelmate Jeffrey Osbornes 1990 Smash Only Human (Another album and song milestone of the year) where they tell a story, and have great vocal stylings throughout.

Let's go back shall we? When Whitney Houston worked with the best in the business and every music person in the business was appreciative of her outstanding and unique voice. When Whitney worked it with these majestic mavericks in the music industry.

Where are they now? How much does a woman have to give? Here on just "I'm Your Baby Tonight" is an album that took Ms. Houston to new heights and I don't care if she ever recorded, "I Will Always Love You," but she did. This CD now is a remarkable reminder of her phenomenal talent as a vocalist. It is so bittersweet that her recording of "All The Man That I Need" is the man who watched her right now at the age of 42, I'm 44 watch her career evaporate somehow. I miss Whitney Houston's voice and charisma...she is timeless, but how much time will go by for those who love her to hear her sing again?

I love this cd, but then I love all things Whitney! "My Name Is Not Susan" is just plain great. Everytime I hear that opening I just get the chills. I also like "I'm Your Baby," a GREAT mood piece I play it everytime I feel lonely. I'd also like to recommend "I'm Knockin'." It's not everyone's favorite but if you listen to it enough you start seeing where Whitney was really commin' from on this album. A very nice conclusion to a great cd. Highly recommended for those unfamiliar with Houston's work!

There is no doubt about the upcoming anticipation of the return of Whitney houston, and her upcoming record I Look To You. There is no doubt about it, that I am definitely rooting for her, after all the heartbreak she went through the past several years from the death of her father, to her marriage to Bobby Brown ending in divorce, to issues with her personal life. But, this wasn't the only time Whitney had been under the gun to deliver. Back in 1989, she was booed at the Soul Train Awards, because many of the R&B fans wanted her to be with the times. While Whitney did deliver strongly with the voice, many wanted her to be more dance and modern R&B driven, rather than being a Pop music songstress. The result was this baby.

Whitney Houston's 1990 album I'm Your Baby Tonight has finally been re-released in C.D. format for the first time in several years, after being out of print for awhile. The album did surface in MP3 format only, but now it is available on C.D. again. The songs here brought a challenge for Whitney to deliver a more upbeat and dance driven R&B style, to compete with Hip Hop and New Jack Swing music from other acts like Keith Sweat and her now ex-husband Bobby Brown. The songs weren't as strong as was the case with Whitney's first 2 records were back in the 80's, but Whitney still proved her voice had the strength. There still are a few great songs on the album ranging from dance R&B to soul classics including the upbeat title travk I'm Your Baby Tonight, to the soulful All The Man I Need, and often overlooked ballads like the simple Miracle and Lover For Life. There also here on the album includes We Didn't Know, a collaboration with Stevie Wonder.
