This review is from: I'm Your Baby Tonight (Audio CD)
There is no doubt about the upcoming anticipation of the return of Whitney houston, and her upcoming record I Look To You. There is no doubt about it, that I am definitely rooting for her, after all the heartbreak she went through the past several years from the death of her father, to her marriage to Bobby Brown ending in divorce, to issues with her personal life. But, this wasn't the only time Whitney had been under the gun to deliver. Back in 1989, she was booed at the Soul Train Awards, because many of the R&B fans wanted her to be with the times. While Whitney did deliver strongly with the voice, many wanted her to be more dance and modern R&B driven, rather than being a Pop music songstress. The result was this baby.
Whitney Houston's 1990 album I'm Your Baby Tonight has finally been re-released in C.D. format for the first time in several years, after being out of print for awhile. The album did surface in MP3 format only, but now it is available on C.D. again. The songs here brought a challenge for Whitney to deliver a more upbeat and dance driven R&B style, to compete with Hip Hop and New Jack Swing music from other acts like Keith Sweat and her now ex-husband Bobby Brown. The songs weren't as strong as was the case with Whitney's first 2 records were back in the 80's, but Whitney still proved her voice had the strength. There still are a few great songs on the album ranging from dance R&B to soul classics including the upbeat title travk I'm Your Baby Tonight, to the soulful All The Man I Need, and often overlooked ballads like the simple Miracle and Lover For Life. There also here on the album includes We Didn't Know, a collaboration with Stevie Wonder. Sadly, the collaboration doesn't strike the chord in the way Whitney had later proved on My Love Is Your Love with collaborations. All in all, despite a few flaws I'm Your Baby Tonight was a good album, but for Whitney Houston it still shows that she can sing just about anything. If you're a hard core Whitney Houston fan, and didn't find the album in CD format, than you'll definitely be thrilled to get the album. If you're new to Whitney's voice, than I suggest you start with either of Whitney's first two records, Whitney Houston or Whitney instead.
