2.0 out of 5 stars Not that interesting
Dani Myers is a "communications specialist," which means she helps people break up with their significant other. She works for Your Big Break, Inc., which is not a believable company. I was irritated with the fact that most people who break up will not hire a company to do the breaking up for them. That is just tacky and weird. And building a Breakup Recovery Kit...

For Dani Myers - the best way to get over heartache is to help others through the process. As a communication specialist for "Your Big Break," a company specializing in doing the dumping for you, she acts as the bad guy and gets rid of your pesky soon-to-be-ex as well as retrieves your personal property. Keeping her occupation secret from her family, she is shocked when her latest client is her father's mistress, becomes close friends with a habitual client's ex, and manages to make love connections for some of her recent dumpees. Then to top it off, she's attracted to Brady, one of the dumpees who has no idea of the role she played in his break up or her company strict no getting involved policy.

Edwards's sophomore novel retains the wit and stellar storytelling she displayed in "The Next Big Thing." Readers will relate to Dani's life teetering like a roller coaster as she tries to keep all her balls in the air. The dialogue is crisp, the secondary characters are well drawn, and the plotting is tight. Bar none the best ending paragraph of any book I have read! I read it cover to cover in a day and absolutely loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Once again Johanna did it, June 21, 2008
This review is from: Your Big Break (Paperback)
I might be bias alittle since Johanna is a personal friend of mine. I went to HS with her and took a socialogy class with her. I have all her published work. Thru out this book I saw a very funny romantic comedy (movie). Same thing with "The next big thing". Johanna is a smart , witty , beautiful and simply wonderful writerand person. I am honored to know her.

5.0 out of 5 stars liked it better than the first book, June 8, 2006
This review is from: Your Big Break (Paperback)
I actually liked this book better than The Next Big Thing. It was so much fun and truly original. I laughed the whole way through and the book was an extremely quick read. I picked it up for vacation and finished it in three days. Definitely recommended. My only critique is the ending came a little too fast. But overall this is a winner!

I read Johanna's previous book and passed it on to my mom who loved it as well. We both read 'Your Big Break' and again, loved it. Johanna Edwards has written yet another funny book with an original plot filled with lively, loveable characters.

Highly recommended by both my mom and I... give this great chick lit a chance!
I'm looking forward to reading more books from this author. Keep on writing =D .

Your Big Break is a great, quick read. I read it in one afternoon at the pool. While it doesn't have the greatest writing it is engaging and entertaining. I would def. read another book Edwards afet reading this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved It!, January 29, 2008
This review is from: Your Big Break (Paperback)
First time writing a review but I had to break down and do it. I enjoyed every book I've read from this author and "Your Big Break" had me smiling all the way to the end. A nice warm book to read during this cold winter.

I have to say, I enjoyed reading this book. I like the way Johanna Edwards writes, and I love the fact that her heroines are not stick thin bleach blonde barbies (not that there's anything wrong with that, but you just get tire of the same gir being portrayed over and over again).
About half way through you could kind of figure out how the story would end, but that didn't take away from the experience of the book.
I'd definitely recommend this book and author to my friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Complete Fun!, February 25, 2007
By
This review is from: Your Big Break (Paperback)
Dani Myers is a "communication specialist." English translation: Dani breaks up with people for a living. She'll even quit your job for you. Dani loves what she does until the unthinkable happens. She receives a new client that wants to hire her to break up with Dani's own father. If that isn't bad enough, her parents are still married.

Dani is thrown for a loop. Should she tell her mother? Should she break up with her own father? Dani must figure it out or risk losing her job!

This book was so cute and so much fun! This was my first encounter with Johanna Edwards and I really enjoyed her work. Her writing style was light and funny. The plot was unique and interesting. I would definitely recommend this novel to someone who is looking for a unique take on chick lit.

I give this novel 4 out of 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unusual Job, May 26, 2006

Want to quit your job? Break up with someone? Call Dani Myers and she'll do it for you. She'll even supply a "break up kit" (cd's, dvd's and chocolate)to the unlucky person. Her job gets a little too interesting when the man a woman wants to break up with is Dani's father! As far as she and her brother Sean know, their parents are happily married.

And this is only ONE of her cases.

It's a far out idea and leads to many complications in her life.

Light and funny - a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, funny quick read, April 4, 2006

I got to read the first 3 chapters of this book online as part of a Bzz Blast (as I am a Bzz Agent)and as soon as I was done with those chapters I had to rush out and find this book. I was so happy that I was able to find it right away. I read the entire book yesterday! It has been a long time since I have not been able to put a book down and I just have to finish it then. This book is so funny that I was literally laughing outloud on numerous occations (which made my husband think I was nuts!). It deals with a woman named Danielle Myers and she works for a company that will help you break up with people. Danielle's life gets complicated when a woman comes in her office to have her break up with her married boyfriend, who turns out to be Danielle's father. Her life is further complicated as she begins to fall for one of the men that she was hired to dump. I would very highly recommend this book to anyone! Very very funny!
