Your Catholic Wedding: A Complete Planbook

As a new Catholic who just came into the church in the past year and had only seen two Catholic weddings in her life, attempting to plan an entire Catholic wedding mass seemed to be a daunting task. I purchased this book in the hope that it would guide me through the unfamiliar territory of planning and customizing the mass, and I was by no means disappointed. This book was everything I had hoped for and more. The book presents all of the available prayers, blessings, readings, and vows to choose from, discusses ways in which couples can incorporate friends and family into the liturgy, includes worksheets to record the liturgical and musical choices a couple makes, and briefly discusses the meaning and import of the Sacrament of Marriage. Also, in addition to printing the Scriptural passages available for use in the mass liturgy, the author expands upon each passage and describes how the Scripture message pertains to marriage and what the couple should take away from the passage. Although a couple would only use a select few of the available options in their mass, reading the author's discussions of each passage can serve as excellent marriage preparation. Other basic wedding planning tools are included as well, such as a timeline for task completion and space to record important names and phone numbers. This is by far the best wedding planning resource I have purchased thus far, and I highly recommend this book to any Catholic couple preparing to plan their wedding mass (especially new Catholics who are relatively unfamiliar with the mass liturgy!).

Most everyone who gets married in the Catholic church is given the Together For Life book by their priest. This book expands on that one, offering no new readings or prayers, but certainly better explains the meaning behind the whats and whys of the Catholic wedding ceremony. A great reference book for anyone planning a traditional Catholic wedding.

If you are looking for a book that speaks to what a Catholic marriage is, then this is an excellent book. If you are looking for easy going, do as you please... think twice... because this book is neither of those and nor is marriage!

This book has the merit of being thorough and thought-provoking in its coverage of what Catholic marriage means and what the ceremony options involve. Aridas is, however, more conservative than many U.S. pastors. Couples who are turned off by his insistence on "wives submit to their husbands" and other controversial ideas should talk to their own pastors before deciding that this author represents the Church. The book is well worth reading as part of more extensive marriage preparation.

I found the book to be very useful and insightful. It was very helpful in understanding some of the "rules" set by the Catholic Church. Much of the information in the book is standard for Catholic ceremonies and we already received that information in a booklet from the Church. I liked the format in this book much better though.

This book is a more complete guide than "The Catholic Wedding Book" and probably the best book on planning a Catholic wedding that is out there.

My wife and i both found this to be a wonderful resource in both planning and contemplating marriage. Fr.Aridas speaks truthfully on Church teaching. This isn't a happy go lucky just have fun kind of book, but serious preparation...including at the spiritual level. Faithful Catholics will be pleased and impressed. Cafeteria Catholics will find they are not catered too, as they are by, unfortunately, many parish priests. Not for the faint of heart or weak of faith.

I don't think it was the author's intention at all, but the whole time I read the book I felt like he was preaching to me. The unwelcoming tone of the book really turned me off from the start, but to give it a chance I actually read it all the way through. Now I think that was a waste of time.

Fortunately, I also ordered "The Catholic Wedding Book" by Molly "K. Stein and William C. Graham at the same time. I highly recommend "The Catholic Wedding Book" over Your Catholic Wedding. "The Catholic Wedding Book" has the same (and some better) information, and it's written in a respectful yet amusing way. Both books describe the parts of the Catholic Nuptual Mass, and both have reading, psalm, and music suggestions. The information in Your Cathoic Wedding is also in "The Catholic Wedding Book." The latter also had extra useful information. If you only buy one book on Catholic weddings, buy "The Catholic Wedding Book" by Molly K. Stein and William C. Graham.

A valuable resource for the Catholic couple planning their wedding but also a valuable pastoral resource. This book reaches out to the couple at a teachable moment and explains the Sacrament of Marriage in very understandable terms. It also contains practical advice on how to plan your wedding and remain focused in a prayerful way on the significant event.

This book is a great Guide if you are not know were to start with you Catholic Wedding service. The detail that this book gives you on how to do deatils and go about preparing your special day is remarkable. They even have New and Old traditions that will help you and and your special someone plan that perfect day. After following some of the guides in this book I had a women ask me if i was a religous Wedding Planner. I assure you that if you use this book it its full advantage you will not be sorry.
