The Flavor Of Hank, June 20, 2011
This review is from: Your Cheatin Heart (Paperback)
This semi-novelization of the life of Hank Williams Sr. has pretty much been disowned by Mr. William's "serious" biographers and the official Nashville memory machine. So what? It will give the reader a true flavor of the times and of Mr. Williams brief but meteoric career. Mr. Flippo, a fine journalist and author, has given us the most readable and realistic account of Mr. William's life and personality. And his insights into how Mr. Williams composed (often with much assistance from his publisher, Fred Rose) those immortal songs are valuable indeed. Some parts (Mr. William's toilet habits, for example) are a bit over the top, but overall this is a must-read for any fan of the man and his music.
