1.0 out of 5 stars Outdated and Useless, June 30, 2010

The author sums it up at the very end of the book; even if your child is a genius over-achiever and exceptionally mature for his age do not accelerate his learning, just let him wallow in a grade that is completely irrelevant and remedial until your youngster is so disinterested in school that he completely withdraws mentally from all things academic.

Or you could trust the hundreds of case studies done since the Great Depression that show that Intelligence and Social Maturity generally go hand in hand and that grade acceleration is a tried and true method to make sure that the curriculum is at the appropriate level for you child. All of the books about gifted learning written over the last 20 years agree that social maturity is almost never an issue when skipping a grade, and that much of any behavioral issues your child might be experiencing currently are do the curriculum being at too low a level for your child, so more often than not skipping a grade will cure behavioral problems.

Try ordering the book Iowa Acceleration Scale and Raising a Gifted Child, great tools.
