This review is from: Be Your Child's Best Advocate: 100 Strategies for Parents of Children with Learning or Behavior Issues (Paperback)
I'd been looking for a book like this. It covers a variety of topics for parents with children with learning or behaviorial issues. For each topic, it gives strategies to deal with that.
It has understanding and accepting your child's difficulty, getting the spouse involved, and building the child's self-esteem. It discusses working with schools and educators, asking for special services and placement, and how to help your child make school transitions.
The section on self-advocacy was valuable to help the child be his or her own best advocate, teach your child social skills, enhance communication skills and teach self-reliance.
To me, the suggested strategies are really sensible and get you started when sometimes otherwise it just seems overwhelming.
I'm loaning my book to a friend whose child has ADD and then to another friend with an adult child with learning difficulties.
This is a greatly needed book since many parents with these issues just don't know where to turn for help.
