This review is from: Your Child's Unique Temperament: Insights and Strategies for Responsive Parenting (Paperback)
I was under the impression that my daughter (now 31/2) was the way she was as a baby (difficult, to say the least) because I was lacking parental intuition and frankly, skill. Since adding a second child to the mix, I now see how different 2 children can be. This was similiarly experienced by the book's author, who now is delivering an actual strategy for determining some of the reasons why children are so unique and how to best parent them. This kind of "custom parenting" based on temperament is a new idea to me, and reading this book validated a lot of things I was already doing, as well as offering a lot of suggestions. As an RN, as well, I am appreciative of the research that was involved in the development of the strategies in the book, and hope to put them to good use. The last comment I have, is that it also contains a chapter entitled "Parents Are People, Too". I usually receive my input on how I'm doing as a mom from my husband and parents, but found this chapter to be very empathetic, and related to so much of it. With that, I hope other people find this book to be helpful, and interesting to read. Happy Parenting! |
