About the Author

Matthew Swaim works at Sacred Heart Radio in Cincinnati, Ohio and is the producer of "The Son Rise Morning Show," a nationally syndicated program on the EWTN global Catholic radio network. He holds a B.S. degree in Media Communications (2002) from Asbury College.

Though serving in many non-Catholic Christian ministries prior to his conversion, Swaim entered the Catholic Church during the Easter Vigil of 2005, and his "zeal of conversion" brings an added excitement to his practice of the faith.

He and his wife Colleen reside in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Writing as the father of two college students and as a teacher of adolescent psychology to college students, I'd say that Matt and Colleen Swaim have nailed it on this one. They know what to say to today's college students and how to say it. Your College Faith: Own It! is relevant, heartfelt, practical, suffused with warmth and good humor, and replete with some very sonorous bells and whistles. The self-questions are truly thought-provoking, the "alumni directory" profiles are truly moving, and the recommended reading is right on target. They hit so many essential topics too, preparing students for the kinds of worldviews and worldly temptations they will likely face, giving real concrete suggestions for growing in the faith, embracing the sacraments, becoming part of the Catholic community in a local parish or in Catholic Centers and groups, discerning one's vocation, and even providing excellent advice on such seemingly mundane, but ever-so-real dilemmas as keeping fit and healthy, coping with social media, and managing a limited budget while one tries to get those coveted academic initials, learn something useful along the way, and grow deeper in one's relationship with Christ and his Church. Your College Faith: Own It! (And buy it, read it, share it with a student you love.)

I heard about this book on the radio. I bought it for both my twin daughters who graduated from HS last month. They have not been able to put it down. It is just so down to earth, such a friendly design and format, it actually gets kids engaged reading about what they will be facing in college and how to stay truthful to their faith.

This is a great book for any graduating senior and even young adult. Though it is ultimately Catholic, there are tools that any young Christian can apply to their life as they are called to live as disciples of Christ. I have bought a copy for my senior CCE class and am using it as my "textbook" for these last months of classes to prepare them for owning and living the faith when they get out from under Mom and Dad's roof.

The struggles addressed are applicable to every life path. Some situations are more geared to college life, but the tools to live the faith are universal. I love the format. Each chapter begins with a quote from Sacred Scripture or a papal document that flows into the topic of that chapter. Inserted throughout the chapter are reflection questions (with lines to write in their answer) that get the reader to think about their own life and their own faith walk. Each chapter ends with "Alumni Profile"--stories of Saints--and what the Catechism of the Catholic Church can offer on the topic. This is followed up by practical ways to live your faith, a few book suggestions, and prayers the reader can return to when facing certain struggles or to seek God's grace when trying to avoid sin.

The book itself is not daunting. Each of the 8 chapters is not long and the language makes for an easy read.

I highly recommend you get this for the graduating senior (or young adult) in your life.
