More About the Author

Brian Massey calls himself The Conversion Scientist and he has the lab coat to prove it. A trained Computer Scientist, Brian realized soon after college that his social skills would doom him in the computer programming field.

He took a sales job out of college, but ended up in marketing where his skills as a scientist could be less ignored. It was the beginning of the golden age of online marketing, and he wasn't satisfied to spend his days sending mass emails.

To fully spread his scientific wings, Brian began his own online marketing laboratory and called it Conversion Sciences.

Now, with almost 20 years of online marketing experience, this programmer / marketer / entrepreneur has helped thousands of companies of all sizes from all industries be successful on the Web.

Brian is a husband, father of two, national speaker, writer and consultant living in Austin, Texas, where life and the Internet are hopelessly entwined.

Brian Massey is the Mr. Wizard of the digital marketing world. He's, what he calls a Conversion Scientist.

In this book he lays out the simple steps, tools and processes you can embrace to increase the quality of your leads or the sales on your website. Your Customer Creation Equation enables you to convince your clients - or co-workers - that the changes you're making in the web world can make a big impact on your bottom line - and he does it all with science.

I can see the book being invaluable for everyone from a consultant (like me) to your marcomm team members or even an e-commerce director who's looking for the no-nonsense approach to enhancing your entire web presence. If you're feeling overwhelmed - he'll show you where to start and take you through some great case studies while he points you to easy-to-use tools and web resources that will change the way you measure your success online.

I thoroughly enjoyed the action-oriented approach Mr. Massey has created and I'm eager to implement his ideas to transform the quality of my leads. Thanks Brian!

There are many things I love about this book.

* It really is packed with excellent content. It gives you a systematic approach (an equation!) to getting more results online.
* The conversational style. Brian Massey has done a great job making something technical (and possibly boring) simple and interesting.
* At less than 200 pages, it's a relatively quick read.

If you're a marketer or a business owner looking to learn more about boosting sales online and decreasing abandonment rates, this is a must-read book.

Note: if you're a conversion optimization pro, the book is not written for you (you'll probably discover some new nuggets, but much will be already familiar to you).

I actually use this book now to train my new hires about conversion optimization. No other book explains important and sometimes complicated concept so elegantly and simply.

Get it.

Perfect for the small to medium web business that wants to look at improving their conversions, thus their revenue.
Great for beginners or intermediate folks who are working on conversion optimization. Brian explains things in non technical manner so anyone can understand.

Even if you have begun conversion optimization you can easily pick up a few ideas to do a/b testing on your website. I read the book in about 3 hours or so and wrote a couple pages of actionable notes.

Read the book and implement what he says before you hire an conversion optimization consultant. This book will save you some money, and then make you some money.

Brian's book is an excellent read and it will serve best for those who are beginning to understand the importance of fine tuning the content of a website. Mostly everything is explained in layman terms. With this book you will understand the mind-set of a customer who visit's a website and you will be able to relocate time and resources on what works on converting the visitor into a client that trust your business.You will also learn to focus less on what doesn't work saving you time and money.

I'm in internet business for about 7 years. Believe me I've read tons of books, ebooks, guides, etc. Some of them are not even worth mentioning. Brian did a decent job summarizing the online world from the perspective of how to generate leads. I like that he really sees that marketing is not a hobby but a science. Good job!

2014-04-29 - Chapter 7 - Charging Your Marketing Batteries

First I best disclose I'm a closet Massey Groupie. Met Brian when he + I both spoke @ PubCon years ago. Since he lives in Austin, we keep crossing paths.

That said, Brian has impressed me over the years as being Wicked Smart and down right enjoyable to be around.

Brian's coyote-mischief personality permeates his writing.

Rather than devouring this book, you'll be served to read a few pages every morning and consider how to implement what you read to change both your thinking and your marketing.

Now onto my review of... Chapter 7 - Charging Your Marketing Batteries...

This chapter filters through the basic truth that your Marketing Machine runs on the fuel of attention.

The quality + quantity of attention you invest in your Marketing Machine determines the effectiveness of your message which determines the intensity of Magnetic Attraction to your customers + clients.

Brian uses the word advertising for a complex operation... "Attracting"...

Writing Beautiful Business I prefer the word "Attracting", which is more accurate with Brian too, because his entire approach to "advertising" is "Conversion Science" which is the process of cultivating Magnetic Attraction.

Brian makes a great point about the insane price these days of Search Ads (PPC - Pay Per Click). In 2005 I could purchase click throughs in my niche for 7 cents. Two years later this same click through cost over $11.00 which can break your bank, unless you have an in house "Conversion Scientist", like Brian.
