5.0 out of 5 stars Balanced guidance for good nutrition and diet June 22, 2010
This is a good general guide for nutrition, on how to eat more healthy, that will give the reader a solid foundation in balanced nutrition, and basic concepts that are of importance in maintaining good health. The author of the book is a medical doctor who also embraces alternative medicine. However, the book doesn't so much discuss alternative therapies, as it does in helping the reader in a practical way to establish a lifestyle of good diet and nutrition. It educates the reader on such topics as the difference between refined and unrefined carbohydrates, why and how to cut down on white sugar, and what sweeteners are healthy and can be used instead, and it also describes cooking techniques which help preserve the nutritional value of the food.

Although I've read about nutrition already, I learned a number of points from this book which are very helpful, such as the chlorinating of store-bought fish, and how to avoid that, which was one point among several which were helpful. There is a section on cleansing the intestines and other organs, I have never practiced that, but have friends who do, and I found the information to be both helpful and balanced.

All in all, the book is very balanced, and can help anyone to eat in a more healthy way, the recipes are easy to prepare and healthy. I'd recommend it as a guide for anyone interested in a more nutritious lifestyle, if you have any type of physical or mental health difficulty or problem, or as a means of prevention, or a way to have more energy. It is not a fadish book or diet plan, but it is a a book that advocates balanced nutrition and shows the reader how to achieve that, while avoiding some of the pitfalls of processed foods in modern society.

If you're tired of endless diet fads and seemingly contradictory information about nutrition, this book will set the record straight with clear, concise facts about how to eat a healthy balanced natural diet and gain greater health. Dr. Clairborne, a holistically-oriented medical doctor, uses a friendly, engaging, and fun style of presentation to convey the knowledge of natural and healthy eating practices. So many diseases are simply the result of poor eating habits, and Dr. Clairborne intelligently makes the case for improving health and eliminating illness by fundamentally changing not only what we eat by how we look at our food. Even those readers with education in nutrition, such as myself, will learn something new.

It's not easy to take a hard look at yourself at times and say that you are contributing to your own demise. When it comes to what we put in our bodies, though, the author reminds us of just that. EAT YOUR DISEASE AWAY is more than just about avoiding ailments that so many face because of their diets and lifestyle choices. The book takes you into why the author cares and even gives you healthy substitutes that will definitely make your life and your journey to be healthier and happier easier.

I read this book looking for ways that I could make simple application, and the author shows us that it all begins with the simple things: what we have in our cabinets, our fridge and even on our shelves. The basic choices we make when it comes to how we cook and how much we consume can literally make the diference between life and death.

I applaud the doctor for giving us something that is not always easy to accept but will make a difference if we take time to apply it.
