This review is from: Your Dream Made Easy : How To Start A Successful Business : A Step-By-Step Introduction With Worksheets (Paperback)
All of us, no matter who we are, what we do, or where we come from-have dreams. For some, these dreams remain largely unfulfilled and unrealized, mostly because of an inability or unwillingness to act upon them. While others do take action, but they flail away incessantly, their hopes and aspirations cast adrift by life's tides, their dreams eventually becoming diluted and deferred by the mundane activities of daily life. As we begin a new century and a new millennium, the dream of entrepreneurship-that of charting one's own course and mapping one's own destiny with a thriving and satisfying business of one's own is becoming increasingly attractive to more and more people. Rosemary Agonito's book: Your Dream Made Easy-How to Start a Successful Business offers a perfect blueprint for those who want more from life than just a paycheck earned on someone else's corporate ladder. For those who don't want merely to "tilt at windmills" and who desire to be "the masters of their fate, and the captains of their soul." Just as we all must learn to walk before we can run, and run before we can fly, so too is it necessary to learn to take incremental steps before the dream of business ownership becomes a reality. Dr. Agonito, a successful business woman and entrepreneur in her own right, shows us in explicit detail the prescription to follow if we want to lift our business dreams and aspirations off of the ground, and into the new frontier and beckoning horizon of the 21st century. Her book manages to be candid and straightforward; (you don't have to be a CPA or a real estate lawyer to understand it) yet inspirational as well, merging the practical with the poetic as it spares us of the sappy sentementalism and inane platitudes of so many other of the self-help books on the market today. This is accomplished through numerous self-assessments and inventories, combined with role playing exercises and smart strategies that ultimately lead one down the road to success. The author quite rightly stresses that the concept of success differs for each and every one of us, and encourages us to give voice to our own unique dreams by first articulating what they are. One particular portion of her book that I found especially enlightening was the chapter on marketing and selling your product or service. The practice exercise involving the different toothpastes and placing into the sample pie piece, which each represents a different segment of the population, is an excellent metaphor for how business must target their products and services to specific segments of the population at large. Dr. Agonito's book does not offer the reader a pie in the sky approach however, but a strikingly down to earth one. How to lay the groundwork for your business, how to write a business plan, the question of business location, as well as dealing with the numerous financial matters from budgeting to uneven cash flow are among the concepts and concerns that are genuinely addressed in this no nonsense, no frills, but yet thorougly uplifting book. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who harbors the dream of starting your own business. Dr. Agonito's book gives us the necessary tools to accomplish this. It's a 5 star read! Excellent!
