5.0 out of 5 stars One of the world's best Irish Tenor Banjo players!!!, July 6, 2001

This review is from: In Your Ear (Audio CD)
First off, this is NOT the Seamus Egan from the Irish supergroup Solas (who also happens to play tenor banjo) but another Seamus Egan from the Portland, Oregon area (affectionately referred to as "West Coast Seamus"). How two of the world's greatest irish tenor banjo players happened to both be named Seamus Egan is beyond me... (BTW I'm also thinking of changing my name to Seamus Egan as I too play tenor banjo and could use all the help I can get!!!) Anyway, this recording is an amazing first release featuring ALL instrumental dance tunes (jigs, reels, hornpipes) played at an amazing level of virtuosity. Seamus' tenor banjo playing is right up there with all the best in my opinion (Gerry O'Connor, Mick Moloney, Kieran Hanrahan, John Keenan, and Barney McKenna to name a few). Seamus plays mandolin and tenor guitar on a few tracks in addition to tenor banjo and is joined by some of the best Irish traditional musicians from the US West Coast (and elsewhere) on Uillean Pipes, Guitar, Accordian, Bodhran, etc...All instruments give amazing performances on this recording (and the guitar accompaniment is some of the best I've ever heard). I should mention that this is not by any means just an Irish tenor banjo recording as all the instruments form a cohesive whole.

Basically this album SMOKES!!! If you love Irish traditional dance music as played by amazing musicians then you will absolutely love this album and should not hesitate buying it.
