Passionate and committed author deserves praise.,
By
This review is from: In Your Face: From Actor to Animal Activist (Hardcover)
When he talks about the subject at hand, author Chris DeRose shows there is no one who is more passionate and committed to the plight of animal abuse and the crime of pet theft. However, Mr. DeRose often can't focus his thoughts, and leads the reader down roads which distract from the true problem he so passionately supports. For example, Mr. DeRose sees himself as quite a ladies man, and several times speaks about how so and so was a "real pretty girl" or how he and his friends were just out "looking to get laid". Frankly, I don't know how that helps his quest to free animals from the tortures of vivasection.Still, Mr. DeRose's text is necessarily harsh, brutal, and realistic, which makes his book one of the most compelling books on this subject in print today. His insight and first-hand accounts of being inside labs command attention and response, but are not for the faint of heart. Thank you, Mr. DeRose, for offering all you have to the oppressed animal population. You are a true friend to the helpless. You've written a story which needed desparately to be told. And you've written it without pulling your punches and without sentimentalizing.

Important facts for animal lovers,
By A Customer
This review is from: In Your Face: From Actor to Animal Activist (Hardcover)
Mr. DeRose tells the story of the animals like it should be told--straight to the point, no holds barred. Most importantly, he makes you think and decide for yourself if vivisection is a justifiable action. The stories of his personal life show how one man can devote himself to a cause and bring about positive changes. A good read.

Torture, by any name...,
By
This review is from: In Your Face: From Actor to Animal Activist (Hardcover)
I'm not a fan of cliches. But since I read this book in a day, how can I avoid saying "I couldn't put it down"! I'm an armchair activist - letters, letters, letters. I don't know where Chris DeRose finds the strength to put himself in situations where hideous cruelty is right there "in his face." Thank heavens he does, and that he chose to share his Direct Action experiences with us. His tale is gripping. And it is a punchy statement on a society which condones, even encourages, torture.

Hard Hitting- There really are stolen pets in research!,
By A Customer
This review is from: In Your Face: From Actor to Animal Activist (Hardcover)
The book is a quick read-- It's hard to put down, because it moves fast. The author is passionatly committed to the cause of animal rights, and puts himself on the line to prove his point. I liked his reasoning for his beliefs, and his straight forward writing style. He is a friend of any pet owner who doesn't want their animal being stolen and sold for research. He supports the bill in congress, HR 594, the Pet Safety and Protection Act, and asks readers to call their legislators to cosponsor the legislation

Kim Basinger -"...A straight shooter-- outspoken and totally fearless in the face of the adversary, Chris is a true friend to the animals of this world and in many instances has put his life on the line for them. I wish there were more people like him.John Travolta -"Chris DeRose is the most committed animal rights activist I know!" Linda Blair -"No other human I know works as hard as Chris to fight against the injustice and inhumanity done to animals."

a very good expose,
By Britta (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Your Face: From Actor to Animal Activist (Hardcover)
I read the book several years ago and I consider Chris de Rose a hero. He has the balls to do things that most people only talk about. Breaking into labs to show the horror of animal testing, exposing people who torture animals, being a voice for animals, and putting himself in harms way to undercover people who sell animals to labs and treat animals like an inanimate piece of furniture, with no feelings or emotions. This is a guy we can all learn from. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know the truths of what really happens in laboratories around the world in the name of "science." A well-written expose.

Proof That Angels Walk the Earth,
By Tigerlover (North Hollywood, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Your Face: From Actor to Animal Activist (Hardcover)
Angel or madman? Hero or heretic? "In Your Face" is the riveting true-life story of one of the bravest men in America. As hair-raising as a well-crafted crime novel, this book is so shocking, it's hard to believe it's not fiction. For the fate of animals in laboratories, we can only wish it were. Suspenseful, gritty, treacherously honest, and heart-breakingly beautiful, "In Your Face" chronicles one man's fight against pet theft and the heinous crimes and atrocities performed on animals every day in the name of medicine. Chris single-handedly champions the animals against the indifference of the public and the legal system toward animal cruelty and injustice. Chris is living proof that one person can change the world. Read it and join him...but block off some time. You won't be able to put it down. There's only one thing wrong with this book. It wasn't long enough. By the way, Chris claims to not believe in God because a benevolent God couldn't have created a world where there is so much suffering. My message to the author: Cut God some slack, Chris. You're the reason the world is so screwed up. God ran out of time creating everyone else. He spent all His time on you.

wake up call,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: In Your Face: From Actor to Animal Activist (Hardcover)
I love this book. It shows just how much greed, animal cruelty and death is behind vivisection. People might not like to know what goes on behind closed doors of "research labs" and it might make them uncomfortable. This is a must read book whether you like animals or not.

Fascinating read,
This review is from: In Your Face: From Actor to Animal Activist (Hardcover)
Yes, Chris de Rose is "in your face" and he makes no apologies. But he's really got something to say, too. Sometimes hard to read if you really love animals and abhor vivsection... but a "must read" for anyone who really cares about our fellow living things.Staci Layne Wilson

A little boy who tries to show off,
By A Customer
This review is from: In Your Face: From Actor to Animal Activist (Hardcover)
Chris DeRose waves the banner of "goodness." But through the exploits he writes about in this pitiful attempt at a book, he's just an angry little boy who wants attention. He talks about the women he slept with, the property he destroyed, the macho fights he had, and his many times going to jail. Hello, people... take away the "I care about animals" act, and this guy is obviously just a sociopath who can't get along with anyone or do anything successful in his life. Don't waste your money. A friend gave me this book because he couldn't believe it wasn't fiction about a social reject who found a disturbed nitch for himself. It would be great fiction as character development, but this autobiography just demonstrates an author who's obviously in love with himself and goes to extreme (but sad) lengths to prove it.
