5.0 out of 5 stars Your Film Acting Career
This is an excellent book, not only does it teach the basics on how to survive in the show business,it is also very entertaining and very comical. I recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about becoming a professional actor/actress.

3.0 out of 5 stars O.K. but clearly for people with no experience
Hi - this book is great for someone who has almost no experience. If you have been acting for any period of time at all, you will know most of what is in the book. Not to mention, some of the information is a little outdated. But that being said, it does have good info. in it for those just stepping into the business.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Guide to the L.A. Acting World, December 9, 1999
This review is from: Your Film Acting Career: How to Break Into the Movies & TV & Survive Hollywood (Paperback)
I recently moved to Los Angeles to further my acting career. Mr. Lewis' book was one of many I read on the subject prior to my move and was the only one that I've really followed since I've been here (6 whole months now!). It sounds kinda' "cheesy", but I followed his advice pretty much to the letter and am well on my way. It was a tremendous help in getting an agent and just "learning the ropes". I highly recommend this book to all newcomers to L.A. and any actor who is still struggling trying to figure out this town! Break a leg!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes the truth hurts, October 9, 2000

M.K. Lewis does a great job of getting you to understand the complexity of trying to make it in L.A. He gets you thinking about your commitment to acting by giving you a lot of truthful, upfront information about what it is really like trying to "survive in Hollywood". Having studied with M.K. in Santa Monica for 9 months, I can honestly say that he wants nothing more than success for those who read his book. Well worth a look!

5.0 out of 5 stars A continual source of reference, September 13, 2005
This review is from: Your Film Acting Career: How to Break Into the Movies & TV & Survive Hollywood (Paperback)
When I moved to LA to start an acting career, this was the first book that I bought. Written with humor, and straight forward, to the point info, it answered all of my questions, and then some. 12 years later, I am still working in Los Angeles, and still using "Your Film Acting Career" as my reference guide. Over the years, Lewis's updated editions have carried me from black and white proof sheets into the digital era of the Hollywood business. Before you leave home to head west, as soon as you arrive, or in your 12th year in LA, this book is as essential to any actor and their career, as the Thomas Guide is to any driver and their destination.

My name is Johnny Cann. I am a professional stuntman/actor/writer/director. Thanks to the information in this book I have over 100 film and television credits. It is one of the best instructional books for actors I have ever read. If you are thinking about getting into the film business you need this book. An invaluable tool for beginners as well as seasoned pros. I highly recommend "Your Film Acting Career".

2.0 out of 5 stars Outdated!, May 24, 2008
This review is from: Your Film Acting Career: How to Break Into the Movies & TV & Survive Hollywood (Paperback)
Although this book has good information for someone starting out in Hollywood, it is VERY outdated and anyone reading it definately needs to read newer books on the same topic (and there are plenty of them!).
