"His" First Atlantic Crossing, May 6, 2005
This review is from: Your First Atlantic Crossing, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
This is the author's journal on his first east-west crossing and arrival to the Lesser Antilles. The title implies that it will provide useful insight and advise for someone considering and planning his/her first crossing, but it does not accomplish this to a point that makes it worth it to buy and read this book. It includes mostly anecdotes of his own journey, mostly boring and of no use for anyone else. The Author insinuates some tensions among the crew of 3, but he does not go deep enough to fully explain them or make his experience of any value for anyone else; not even entertaining. The route he chooses is not ideal either: it goes too south before turning west, putting him on unfavorable currents and wind, and missing on the prevailing winds that would make for a more comfortable and faster crossing. Also, his route took him to places in Africa that should be avoided for safety reasons. I visited those places and they have very little to offer. Just borrow this book at your local bookstore and read the last 20 or so pages where most of the value of the book is.
