5.0 out of 5 stars Another major "best of" Golden Records collection -- and maybe not the last..., July 8, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: From Your Golden Childhood: The Best of Little Golden Records, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
In Volume Two "best of" albums from the great children's record library that began as Golden in the 40s and ended as Wonderland in the 80s comes more collectible treasure featuring Shari Lewis, Popeye (Jack Mercer), Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Jimmy Durante, baseball's Mel Allen & more. 14 songs in all, many for the 1st time in 50 years.

Just a few of the wonders on the this volume:
* The definitive "Popeye the Sailor Man" that Robin Williams recreated note for note in the 1980 movie.
* Roy Rogers and Dale Evans singing the song later made famous by Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm on The Flintstones.
* A moving rendition of "Hi Lili, Hi-Lo" by Shari Lewis.
* Rosemary Clooney's sister Betty singing "Fuzzy Wuzzy."
* Mel Allen "calling the game" when Casey went to the bat.
* Art Carney, at the height of "Honeymooners" success, singing Frank Loesser's "The Ugly Duckling."
* The Rita Williams Singers' London stereo version of "On Top of Spaghetti" conducted by Vic Flick -- who was the guitarist on the immortal James Bond Theme. (Rita, for you Brits, sang on a lot of those Woolworth's pop knock-offs of the 50s and 60s.)

And yes, that IS Paul Tripp singing the "Tubby The Tuba" song. Because of time constraints, some little nits are present, but please if you will focus on the magnificent big picture of so many mini-masterpieces.

To paraphrase Mrs. Wedemeyer in "The Honeymooner's" episode "Alice and the Blonde," this certainly is a tray-zure. And to paraphrase Alice Kramden, if this does well enough, the Golden Records library won't become a BURIED tray-zure!

This CD collects 14 "Little Golden Records", which was a children's record label from 1948 to 1964. They were probably the best produced children's records of their era. The songs here are well selected and a lot of fun to listen to if you are a fan of children's music.

"The Best of Little Golden Records Volume 2" is a real treat for Baby Boomers,
who will fondly remember some of the songs but probably haven't heard them in over 40 years. Bring on Volume 3!
