3.0 out of 5 stars A middle manager thinking of job changing needs this book, December 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Your Hidden Assets: The Key to Getting Executive Jobs (Hardcover)
The author does a fair job focusing on the important issues facing the middle manager who feels like changing a job. First of all, you will have to clearly state what do you want and then explain to yourself why do you want it. Only if this self analysis reveals that you have chances to improve your standinds, the author will take you through the job hunting process: polishing the resume, preparing for the interview, approaching the "hidden job market" and evaluating the offers and potential employers. The strong side of the book is its directness toward your goals: the author successfully analyses each type of recruitment agency and the subtle diffrences among them. He tunes your expectations realistically by assessing the basics: what the employers and recruiters look for and have to offer vs. what you look for and have to offer them. The weakness of the book derives mainly from the fact that it was published in a pre-PC/pre-fax/pre-cellular phone era, so that a lot of paper is wasted on obsolete explanations on how to get a good typist, how to effectively mail your stuff and receive incoming phone calls from potential employers. These aspects cry for revision. To end on a positive note, the author is well informed and a solid thinker with acute psychological understanding of a manager in transition.
