5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must read, October 31, 2009
This review is from: How Your Horse Moves (Hardcover)
This book is an absolute must have for everyone who cares the least for the welfare of horses.
It gives a strong insight into equine biomechanics in an easy to read and understanding way.
Personally this book not only gave me a big leap forward in my understanding of the horses biomechanics; it also serves as a constant reference guide when reading additional material in the subject. It is the most used book in my equine library and one I will use frequently for the rest of my time as a rider.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and informative book, January 20, 2011

This review is from: How Your Horse Moves (Hardcover)
Not only is this book extremely informative, it is also a work of art. The author's unique approach of actually painting her horse to show the placement and function of the bones and muscles of the horse at rest and in motion, provides a wonderful illustration to the reader. The author provides clear and concise descriptions of the parts of the horse's body, and together with the photographs and illustrations it is very straightforward and easy to follow. There are photographs of actual bones that really help give an understanding of the horse's body (as well as your own if, as in my case, you dont have much of a grounding in human anatomy). She begins by covering the basic muscles, bones, joints, ligaments and tendons and how they work, then goes on to cover movement and training and how particular exercises affect, strengthen and shape the horse's body. I had purchased several books on horse anatomy and this is by far my favorite. I have learned so much and now get even more enjoyment out of spending time with my horse because I have a much better understanding of how she works from the inside.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing guide to how your horse moves!, January 15, 2012

This review is from: How Your Horse Moves (Hardcover)
If you are interested in biomechanics and understanding the internal structures of your horse's body, this is the book to buy! A fantastic educational guide to the movement of your horse naturally and under saddle.
The paintings are amazing, both shown on a horse at rest and in motion.
Although the author explains the bones, ligaments, tendons and muscle, some basic knowledge of anatomy makes this a comprehensive educational tool.
A truly unique guide and well worth the money spent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for stud.med.vet!, December 10, 2011
This review is from: How Your Horse Moves (Hardcover)
This is a fantastic book. I am studying to be a vet and one of our teachers reccomended this very book, because it gives such a good understanding of where the bones and muscles are located, and how they work when the horse is moving! I am so glad I got this book, it is a great help when trying to understand functional anatomy and osteology, and I'm sure "normal" horse people will love it, too, since the language isn't that academic. Great book!

In order to ride in sync with the horse, one needs to understand the physical forces involved. This book explains how and why the horse moves as it does. It is an excellent resource for anyone who wishes to ride in harmony with their horse.

This is exactly what I was looking for! Very well written and the pictures are spectacular. The paintings on the horse's coat illustrate the text so well, you can read it to a child who will understand everything. If you ever wondered what happens when you horse moves, but especially if you never did, this is the book for you. A must have.
