I read an article in a popular women's magazine which is how I learned of this book, "Your Inner Skinny". I ordered the book from and I am so THRILLED I did. I had 75 pounds to lose, none of my clothes fit anymore and I was tired of wearing jeans & the same frumpy sweaters over & over because I couldn't afford to buy new clothes...I have 3 small children to provide for. I decided it was time to do something about it. When I started reading this book it became clear this was not a fad diet or weight loss "gimmick". It is well written and Joy Bauer is a nutritionist. I used the book as a guide to help me change the wrong eating habits I had acquired over the years after giving birth to my oldest daughter (age 6 now) such as "wasting" calories on foods such as chips, etc., which have no nutritional value and I quit finishing the food my children left on their may not have been going in the trash, but it sure had been going to my waist & hips! I ate MORE food than I ever had and I was never hungry. I ate 5 to 6 times a day. I learned portion control and also how to balance lean proteins, veggies/fruits, and carbohydrates. I even switched my kids to whole wheat bread with no effort...they never even noticed the change. I lost 75 pounds in a year using this book to guide my food choices and a daily excercise regime which consisted of 30 minutes of brisk walking (about 2 miles a day) or an excercise DVD if weather did not permit walking. I went from a size 20/22 down to a size 8 and I never felt better. That was 2 years ago. I got pregnant with my 3rd child this year and gained 30 pounds during the pregnancy and now I'm back on Joy's eating plan and I've lost 7 pounds even through the Christmas holidays. I have 23 more to go.Read more ›

I debated between giving this 5 or 4 stars. I chose 5 because the diet does work. Why then the debate? Because it was very difficult for me personally. I stuck to the diet but that first week you cut out all sugar and salt cold turkey. It makes it hard and made me feel very restricted. But after losing 12lbs. that first week I can see why she does it. The menus are pretty good and I did stay "full" most of the time. You will have the most success if you stick to her meal plans. The foods are easy to prepare and enjoyable. My family's favorite (yes I made them eat what I eat at dinner) was the Sizzil'n Beef Fajitas. My favorite lunch was the Cheese and tomato sandwich. The no soda during the first week was also hard but after the first week you can add it back in (I didn't surprisingly enough). The exercise requirement is also very easy to follow but you are required to exercise 7 days a week. I also like how this diet is really all about wholesome eating. It isn't about buying certain products put out by her. You basically eat vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and lean proteins. Its that simple. I am continuing on my weight loss journey with her book and I am currently in the second half of week two. In this phase she has stepped up her exercise requirements some but they are still at a level I am comfortable with. She also allows for a healthy "extra" in addition to your daily snack. You also are allowed to eat no-calorie sugar twice a day (diet soda counts as one of these). The meals continue to be delicious and I continue to have success albeit at a slower rate of weight loss. I don't believe this is to be considered a miracle diet but a lifestyle changing diet. You basically relearn how to eat healthy and enjoy wholesome foods. I think that is what is so attractive about this diet, it is meant for life long success. I would recommend this over the south beach diet or any other type of diet out there for realistic and long term success.

I lost 40 pounds (and kept it off) on Joy's LIFE Diet. This is her paperback version and it's a steal at this price. Her diet is totally effective, reasonable and EASY to follow. It's also filled with simple and delicious recipes. I highly recommend this book if you want to lose weight.

I purchased this book about 2 months ago after reading an article introducing this diet in a magazine. My husband and I have been following this for almost 2 months and feel great. I have lost 18 lbs and my husband has lost almost 30 lbs!!! The food is healthy and tasty. I will admit that you will have to prepare and cook on this diet, but if you really want to lose weight long term & get healthy this is a reality we are going to have to face!! The first week is the hardest, and then it gets easier as you enter Steps 2 & 3. I found some parts of the diet plan a little confusing, but finally got the hang of it in week 3. I would definitely recommend this as a HEALTHY way to lose weight and live your life!!

I saw Joy showing how simple the meals were in this book on the Today Show last week and happened to be in the bookstore and picked it up. I was hesitant at first but decided to give it a try. I started 3 days ago and have already shed 5 pounds. I couldn't lose 5 pounds on my own if you paid really works and it's easy to follow and the foods needed aren't pricey or hard to find in the grocery store. I feel great and not I'm going to keep going until I am at my desired weight.

Thanks to Joy for a great, simple and easy diet plan that is showing me results already. For the first time in over a year, I feel like I'm on the right path.
