5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible effort at capturing Keith Green's spirit.
As I read through the reviews posted by other people I was saddened to see people so critical about this CD. As a new Christian I was touched by this music and the sheer power of the lyrics. The focus isn't on the vocal style, the music, or the beat. Its Jesus. Thats how Keith would have wanted it.

2.0 out of 5 stars If you like Keith Green songs, stick to Keith Green
Very disappointing album, which, as another reviewer said, basically leaves you wanting to hear the Keith Green originals. The only highlights (and "highlight" seems like a strong word), were Martin Smith's Create in Me a Clean Heart and Matt Redman's Make my life a prayer to you. Stick to "The Ministry Years." The music is wonderful. All the artists are very talented and do their best to pay tribute to a man so dedicated to the Lord's work.

It is uplifting, stirring, and an essential CD for any christian music fan.

I mostly enjoyed this album. Why not "completely enjoyed?" Well, I've heard Keith Green's version of all these songs before, so sometimes when you've heard and liked something in one style and you hear it a different style it can be a little jarring.

The only highlights (and "highlight" seems like a strong word), were Martin Smith's Create in Me a Clean Heart and Matt Redman's Make my life a prayer to you. Stick to "The Ministry Years." Keith Green sings with a whole lot more passion than these overly synthesized covers.

What a loving tribute. If we can't have Keith with us at least we can still have his incredible music.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love These Tributes!, July 21, 2004

This review is from: Your Love Broke Through: The Worship Songs Of Keith Green (Audio CD)
I've just finished listening to this cd for about the 10th time and it is currently playing in the background as I write this review. I love it. The artists have done a great job of paying tribute to Keith Green, to his lyrics, his music, and his passion. It obviously isn't Keith Green, and like another reviewer pointed out, don't expect this cd to replace him. But that isn't the point. The point is that Keith Green was an incredibly godly man whose music and life changed other peoples' lives and Christian music forever.

For those unfamiliar with Keith Green, this cd will be enjoyable, but nothing spectacular. For you, I recommend that you let the lyrics speak to your heart to drive you to your knees in conviction for your lazy hearts and then lift you right back up praising God for the glorious gift of His Son, for Christ's death on our behalf, and simply for who He is: our Beautiful Lord. Then I would recommend that you go out and buy Keith Green's music. There is nothing else like it.

However, for those of us who know the man Keith Green through his music and his testimony, this cd is even sweeter. Hearing some of your favorite songs sung and played in a new way, rather than detracting from them, adds to them as you consider their meaning all over again. It's sorta like when you hear a very familiar Bible verse in a new version--sometimes familiarity has bread thoughtlessness--and a reintroduction can renew the meaning to you. Then when you get to "Oh Lord, You're Beautiful" where Keith's voice has actually been dubbed in with Jason Upton and Martin Smith to a new beat, you will be singing along, lifting your praises up to heaven just like the first time you ever heard the song.

I am so glad that this cd was published. This is certainly a gift to Keith Green's legacy, a gift to his fans, and I pray a gift to God as His children use it to bring their hearts to both repentance and worship.

Keith's music with a modern sound. Words are the same wonderful message as always. I really enjoyed this cd and will continue to enjoy it as much as I did Keith's performance of his songs. If you enjoy today's sound, you'll like this cd.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed and Disgusted, March 26, 2002
This review is from: Your Love Broke Through: The Worship Songs Of Keith Green (Audio CD)
These performances suggest no respect for the original production. Were the recording artists just trying to make a buck? The sound quality and phrasing are very poor. Some selections sound like they were recorded by a junior high garage band with no practice. Some groups obviously cannot spell a chord. What a disappointment! This CD is not a tribute to Keith Green, and certainly falls short of being true to his wonderful spirit.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the untimely death of Christian music pioneer Keith Green, Sparrow Records has released yet another tribute to this splendid artist. However, this ones different in the fact that Sparrow invited artists who either major Modern Worship leaders or have a great deal of worship-filled music. The album starts off with one of Green's most loved songs, "Your Love Broke Through" by Rebecca St. James (with a little help from Phil Keaggy). This is perhaps one of the best tunes that I've ever heard St. James. Vocally, she's at the top of her game. Michelle Tumes turns over a great performance on her cover of "There is a Redeemer". Once again, this makes me wish that Tumes had stayed with her old sound, rather than going more mainstream pop with her latest release, Dream. Michael W. Smith teamed up with Martin Smith (lead singer of Delirious?) to complete an unfinished Green tune, called "There is One". This song is easily one of the highlights, and Martin and Michael's songwriting don't hinder the feel of the album at all. Darlene Zschech produces another highlight with her rendition of "How Majestic is Thy Name". However, some songs are pretty forgettable, like Chris Tomlin's "Lord I'm Gonna Love You" and Twila Paris' "Rushing Wind". While they are great performances, you can't help but want to go back and here Green do them. However, that is a just a minor gripe for a great tribute album to one of the original "Modern Worship leaders". I'm sure this album will help turn yet another generation on to the great musician who was Keith Green.

Keith Green wrote some of the best lyrics to music in Christian music history (he was top of charts long after his death in early 80s). These are contemporary artists performing his songs. Good.
