An "Art of the Heart",
This review is from: Your Love, My Home (Audio CD)
It seems a lot of people are recommending Joshua Payne to people who enjoy the sound of Josh Groban, which is bringing up a lot of comparisons between the two. But in the end, while Payne and Groban have similar traits in vocals, they hit two different places, so to speak. They land in different genres (though not entirely different), and there's no need to compare the two in the same way that there shouldn't be a comparison between Star Wars and Lord of the Rings or Titanic and Ocean's Eleven (or in the way these comparisons shouldn't be compared to the very first between the singers, if you catch my meaning). Payne and Groban both have beautiful voices, and listening to their music without trying to figure out which is better is the best way to go.
Either way, Payne's voice has much emotion (which is somewhat lacking in other music today) and heart behind it. This much is easy to tell, or was to me when I first heard it. I listened to bits of the music on his site and immediately fell in love with the smooth baritone and beautiful lyrics. Three of the songs can be recognized as others' off the bat ("If," "Let It Be Me," and "If You Leave Me Now"), but Payne wrote or co-wrote six of the others. The beauty of the music is how lyrical it is; it has a soothing, quiet feel and its moments of extra strength, such as in "Your Love, My Home." His guitar and piano playing adds to the mood and the sweet atmosphere. All in all, Payne's music is gorgeous on its own, no comparisons needed.

After Reading Bio -- Even More Amazed at Ability,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Your Love, My Home (Audio CD)
After reading the bio of this young man on his official website (JoshuaPayne.com), I can only say, not only is he talented, but he has been tenacious in overcoming some huge difficulties. I would highly recommend this CD, especially if you are a Josh Groban fan.
Both Joshes have a "laid back" quality that makes for easily slipping into a state of complete relaxation. This CD does not have that relaxed feeling uprooted by gratuously inserting an occasional tune that would jerk the listener into a state of a more "energetic" state of mind. However, please be aware that Mr. Payne's official site refers to him twice as a "baritone" (not a tenor), thus comparisons with Mr. Groban in this area are valid. I hope you enjoy this new artist's efforts as much as I did. Music to meditate by. Wonderful.

joshua is joshua, not josh but payne,

joshua payne is himself, an original, not a clone of anyone, simply himself. as such he's completely original, sincere and genuine - rare qualities in today's music scene. I say this after seeing him live at a showcase in New York a few months back.
forget the josh groban reference and wipe that away - just listen to these songs and how this guy sings. . . if you have a chance catch him live because he nails it live - no studio tricks were needed here. .

What a great Surprise! "Sleeper pick",

This review is from: Your Love, My Home (Audio CD)
This cd is excellent! From the 1st track on...it is instant addiction. Payne has some powerful pipes and can really reach into your soul.
I had heard Joshua Payne perform 1 song once at a concert and never heard of him again. I always wondered who he was and what ever happened to him. I had read People magazine and saw him in the Bachelor issue. Saw that he had a cd out, took a sample listen on Amazon, ordered it and have been in love with it ever since. I can't compare him to Josh Groban like some of the other reviewers have. They are two very different Josh's. Only similarities between the 2.... both are men, both are young, both have some powerful pipes, and they both sing in the same genre. Other than that. They are both different in wonderful ways. They have very great individual sounds. Really really pleased with this purchase. It's the sleep pick of the century! ENJOY!!!!

Immense, Independent, Irrefutable Talent,
By ArmyMom (Texas) - See all my reviews

Joshua Payne's music is profoundly moving in its musicality, nuances, and lyrics. Any listener can tell that Payne is classically trained. The difference between this classically-trained musician and the others is that Payne crosses over genres beautifully. Unlike others, there is no awkward feeling that he is out of his element, or that this is an opera singer trying to do popular music. This is simply an excellent singer who has the talent to stylize his music, regardless of genre. For example, my voice teacher told me that it is always more difficult to sing softly than to sing loudly. Payne masters all dynamic levels with ease, including the very difficult soft, yet energetic, singing.
In addition, the lyrics have a truth to them that transcends today's trite lyrics found elsewhere. For example: "Your love, my home." For anyone who has experienced true love (and not just lust, or butterflies), they know that true love is a safe, secure, warm place for our vulnerabilities and flaws and dreams. When hearing Payne's lyrics on the subject, you realize that his poetry captures the essence of reality in a way your soul knows to be true, but would never think to express on its own. Joshua Payne's talent is immense, independent, and irrefutable.

This young man has a wonderfully unique gift. On listening to the previews on apple.com, I quickly checked the Australian music store's websites to which they do not yet stock this CD. I then rushed to amazon.com to order my copy (which turns out is still cheaper, even including shipping).
This man's voice brought tears to my eyes the second I heard it. He sings like an angel, with no over processing from the studio or overpowering background music, and the words to his songs touch you deep inside. You can forget your surroundings and close your eyes, and feel the words bring a smile to your heart. I emailed my mother and demanded she buy a copy immediately as it brought to my mind that we hadn't been in touch for a long itme. This way, althought hundreds of miles away in a different country, we can stay close. Quite an accomplishment for one CD!

DUDE? Zachery! Please read Joshua Payne's bio. Groban has never been on an opera stage. Payne has years of singing on Groban who is still a child. Groban is good, yes, but I saw Joshua Payne recently in concert and he performed some of his old opera repertoire in the middle of his show. He blew us away with one of the most commanding opera voices i have ever heard. Groban can't touch this man's ability. Joshua is an unreal songwriter/guitar player/pianist/pop singer/opera singer/folk singer who can do whatever he wants with his voice. Groban sings one way all the time which can be very nice. Still, the soft singing that Joshua Payne has mastered takes much more control and the loud singing is mind boggling. Zac, he has a masters in Opera. Tell you what, please do your homework next time before you go slamming one facet of this dynamic multitalented wonder. And from all of us who love Joshua Payne, you are forgiven.

Sweet Ray of Light,

One of the large chains has a penny promo called "Verve Autumn Moods." Joshua Payne's title track from this CD is the opener. I thought it was stunning & came back for this set. Michael Omartian who produced many of Christopher Cross' blockbusters and also worked with Donna Summer produced this freshman set from Payne. Payne's story of having been born almost deaf and having hearing restored as a toddler by an operation for which music was a primary therapy is touching. His opera background gives context to some of Payne's studied phrasing. There is no denying the glory of this man's set of pipes! This guy has a gorgeous voice. "Your Love, My Home" is a soaring anthem written by Payne & Omartian with a dramatic love lyric, "Lost in a dream for something more, I found you were all I needed; You are the strength of us; without you, I'd be lost." My favorite track is "The Art of the Heart" by Stephan Moccio & Amy Sky. Moccio has written for Sarah Brightman while Sky has her own "With This Kiss" CD. But Payne takes this tune and sends it through the roof, "There's a sweet ray of light every time that we touch; Love can paint a new picture, that's the art of the heart." It's an orchestral production that is the highlight of this set for me. I also enjoy the Payne-Omartian penned "City Song" that has an excellent build with Omartian's piano making me reach for the repeat button. Payne throws in 2 covers, "If" by Bread and "If You Leave Me Now" by Chicago. This is a good freshman set from this talented young singer who also shows great promise as a songwriter. Enjoy!

I found this CD in the new release section of the music store the other day and have made it my mission to share this discovery! I don't usually make impulsive music purchases, but for some reason felt drawn to this CD and I'm so glad I bought it. The lyrics and Joshua's voice are beautiful and full of passion stirring up a strangely good combination of hope and heart break. I can't stop playing it and find myself taking the long way to wherever I'm going just to listen a little longer. I love this CD. Two words...buy it!
