5.0 out of 5 stars Bryan Ferry's Best Solo Album
This is a fantastic R'n'B influenced album by Bryan Ferry, featuring some of his best song writing and great playing from various session musicians. It is very different from the stuff he did with Roxy Music or the approach he took on other solo albums. It is a hidden gem in Bryan's oeuvre. I bought this album when it first came out on vinyl, in 1977 when I was a...

Wow, I really enjoy Bryan Ferry, but I found this collection of music to be grating and sloppy...dull ideas...Others are encouraged to apply...it is interesting to discuss our differences

It is very different from the stuff he did with Roxy Music or the approach he took on other solo albums. It is a hidden gem in Bryan's oeuvre. I bought this album when it first came out on vinyl, in 1977 when I was a mere 14, and I have played it to death. Now, I gotta get the CD, because it's worn out! It's really timeless. You can't go wrong if you buy this one. You'll be dancing from the first track, "This Is Tomorrow."

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Bryan, October 26, 2007
This review is from: In Your Mind (Audio CD)
I have all the solo Bryan Ferry CDs and all the Roxy Music CDs. This is my favorite solo album by Bryan Ferry. I don't know why it's been overlooked among fans, but there are many wonderful songs, including Tokyo Joe, This Is Tomorrow Calling (Wishing You Were Here), and Love Me Madly Again, a song which easily tops any song on any of the other albums.

3.0 out of 5 stars A minor entry, November 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: In Your Mind (Audio CD)
Ferry's first solo album of original material is a bit of a disappointment, but it does leave you with the gratifying feeling that he saved his best work for Roxy. "Tokyo Joe" and (especially) "Party Doll" are obvious standouts; the female backup vocals and horns are a great touch; and Ferry delivers fine performances. Unfortunately, much of the writing sounds weak and hurried, and Ferry's vocals are too often smothered by the band's overly heavy Rock accompaniment.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best recordings ever!, August 5, 1999

This is one of the best record albums ever! There isn't a clunker in the bunch! I heard what turned out to be "Love Me Madly Again" years ago on an old FM station in DC; I knew the voice was Bryan Ferry but had no idea what the song was called! I could only guess the title. The album features a couple Roxy alumna, Spedding & Manzanara. It's hard to believe that this album was originally recorded in 1976! It's really fresh & vibrant stuff, & some of the guitar work here will send chills up your spine!

4.0 out of 5 stars It is impossible not to love this album, July 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: In Your Mind (Audio CD)
Every song on this album is suffused with thick bass, good lyrics, great guitar work, and even some mysticism or meditative reflection. You will especially like the first, fourth, and fifth tracks. The album ends with a quasi-religious, quasi-personal romp through imagery, with a great beat. You'll like this.
