A sweet multi-generational read-aloud. A grandmother tells her granddaughter about her mother, her daughter, with a sweet refrain of "Just like you" after each mention of similar activities or antics.

Children will identify with the little girl who doesn't want her hair brushed and who insists on choosing her own outfits: "She primped and spangled and made herself kooky costumes. Just like you," and parents will recognize their children in the little girl who is sometimes angelic and sometimes a terror, as Bennett writes: "Most days your mommy was my sweet potato--doll face--poopsie. But some days she turned into THE TERROR!" Children will have fun thinking of their mother as a child like them and parents will be reminded of the trouble they got into when they were kids.

The illustrations are whimsical and fun, to match the text. Bennett realistically shows how little kids can be sweet, and wild, how they have fears and all manner of feelings, and how parents accept them for who they are and love them no matter what.

A great companion volume to Your Daddy Was Just Like You, also by Bennett.

K picked this book up from our public library.

I really liked how the author did a great job with showing kids that their parents which in this case is a mother use to act just like them. The pictures went great with what the author was telling us. The only problem I had was that I didn't know that it was told from a grandparent's point of view. Well the grandmother. It kind of confused K a bit. Though this book is a good way to bring together the memories of a grandmother to her daughter and from her to her daughter.

Your Mommy Was Just Like You by Kelly Bennett
I wanted this book particularly for our youngest grandson. When I started reading it many memories were brought to life as yes my
daughter did have her favorite stuffed animal and yes she knows all their names and the kitty cat had to go with her wherever she went.
Her son has the kitty cat now among hundreds of other animals that he assures me he knows what each and every name is!
Especially like the part where the child is in school and does not know all the letter nor all the numbers but practice helped.
After reading this one I knew I had to go and buy the Daddy book which I have done.

I won the book contest at Jean's site: [...]
and Kelly Bennett sent me the prize(S) Her FB page is here: [...]
Got bookmarkers, postcards, signed book and pamphlet of her books and school visits, etc and a poster with Mommy and Daddy books.
Thanks so much!
