Book Description

September 14, 2010

God wants His people to live without financial stress and worry.

As a Christian, you know that God wants the best for you in every facet of your life—including your finances. But do you truly believe it? You will after reading Your Money God’s Way. With simple, biblical truths taught in plain language, author and pastor Amie Streater will show you how to:

  • get out of debt,
  • build wealth,
  • gain financial freedom, and
  • stay that way—for life.

In most cases, we’re our own worst enemies, Amie says. Most of our financial stresses are self-created. We need to break free from bad habits and bad thinking and learn how to make better choices if we want to walk in financial freedom.

Presently the associate pastor of financial stewardship for the 10,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Amie’s straight-talk approach to finances and life has helped thousands of individuals and families get out of debt. As a powerful, new female voice for personal finance, Amie expertly uncovers seven “counterfeit convictions” Christians believe that often hinder their personal financial success and keep them broke. She shares practical tips, powerful insights, real-life examples, and budgeting plans so readers can recognize the lies and destructive behaviors they’ve held on to. Unlearning those behaviors will help you—whatever your situation—gain control over your spending and face a happier future of financial stability.

“Our God is the Author and Creator of order and peace. It is not God’s will for any of His children to live in chaos, frustration, lack, and debt . . . If we get our heads and hearts right, we can line ourselves up with what He is doing, and our lives will mirror what God wants for us, in us, and through us.”

5.0 out of 5 stars A Refreshing Look at Biblical Financial Values September 2, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
*****
This excellent new book on Biblical financial values blows a breath of fresh air onto the much-covered subject of finances for committed Christians. The author maintains that we are deceived about Biblical finances, that we get off track by distortions of Biblical teaching that lead us down the wrong path. This can happen due to pressure from our materialistic culture, believing the world's lies, and because of the influence of selfish and manipulative people, as well as many other reasons.

The book gets into exactly how we are deceived, which is fascinating--and there are many different ways! Especially interesting to me were the topics of saving and enabling, self-righteous slackers, helping adult children, seeing God as an ATM, and how to evaluate and discern in financial dealings with other Christians.

At the end of each chapter there is a summary of key points, as well as application exercises that the author calls "solution steps" that are intended to help the reader determine how to implement the principles in their own life. There are also prayers as examples to help with various situations; this was one of my favorite parts of the book. The entire book includes Scripture to support the various topics--Scripture taken from the whole of Biblical wisdom--not isolated Scriptures.

This is not a "prosperity teaching" book, nor is it an investment book. It is also not a book about elementary Biblical principles intended to illustrate why tithing, giving, saving, etc. are important. It is a book for those who hold Biblical values to find support in implementing them.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Money August 30, 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a well-organized book. With noted prayer and scripture references this book is a must read for those who study this issue, teach on it and everyone who uses money. This book brings the heart issues down to everyday life. A mix of content and structure in a great read. I have spent many years trying to master the money monster and I was very surprised at how well this book was done! They prayers alone are worth the purchase. This book comes with a game plan. It is up to you to use it or let it sit back on your shelf. It is no get rich quick rather a common sense approach to money. You might already know everything in this book but maybe it has been a while and it is time for an organized look back. This book will not give you investing advice but it will give you lists of question to self-check. I was presently surprised by the authors real life approach to sharing thinking points, prayer and some scripture to relook at what we think and what the word says.

4.0 out of 5 stars Straight-Forward Financial Talk December 27, 2011
Format:Paperback
I figured after filing for bankruptcy, it would be good to get some financial reading in, so I could begin to learn to do things the correct way, which I had not done in the past. Amie Streater is a great writer, combining Biblical truths with financial insight. I really love her straight-forward, no-nonsense writing style. She pretty much kicks you in the butt, forcing you to take responsibility for your actions, but at the same time, the tone in the book is compassionate, wanting others to experience the financial freedom she has found. And, by telling her story, she lends great credibility to what she is talking about because she has been there. It was an easy ready, a breath of fresh-air in the financial book realm. It was not filled with unattainable goals, but really showed that if you trust in God and are willing to do the hard work, the blessing is there. And, I appreciated how she dealt with giving and tithing, giving some small straight-forward steps you could take on your way to financial freedom. I would recommend this book, definitely.
