Book Description

September 14, 2010

Readers discover the seven "counterfeit convictions" that keep them broke and encounter proven plans and for getting out of debt, building wealth, and finding financial peace.

Money habits. Where do they come from? Can you pinpoint when you started shopping to feel better, why you can't usher grown children into financial independence, or why saving for the future is a priority in theory but not in practice?

Amie Streater, associate pastor of financial stewardship for the 10,000-member New Life church in Colorado Springs, has been there. From her own experience, she knows what it's like to look at an impossible pile of bills and a pile of toddlers wrestling in the next room. In Your Money God's Way, empowered by her own incredible journey to financial freedom, she leads readers to the dream of mastering their finances. She also expertly uncovers seven "counterfeit convictions" Christians believe that hinder their personal finance success.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Refreshing Look at Biblical Financial Values, September 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Your Money God's Way: Overcoming the 7 Money Myths that Keep Christians Broke (Paperback)
*****

This excellent new book on Biblical financial values blows a breath of fresh air onto the much-covered subject of finances for committed Christians. The author maintains that we are deceived about Biblical finances, that we get off track by distortions of Biblical teaching that lead us down the wrong path. This can happen due to pressure from our materialistic culture, believing the world's lies, and because of the influence of selfish and manipulative people, as well as many other reasons.

The book gets into exactly how we are deceived, which is fascinating--and there are many different ways! Especially interesting to me were the topics of saving and enabling, self-righteous slackers, helping adult children, seeing God as an ATM, and how to evaluate and discern in financial dealings with other Christians.

At the end of each chapter there is a summary of key points, as well as application exercises that the author calls "solution steps" that are intended to help the reader determine how to implement the principles in their own life. There are also prayers as examples to help with various situations; this was one of my favorite parts of the book. The entire book includes Scripture to support the various topics--Scripture taken from the whole of Biblical wisdom--not isolated Scriptures.

This is not a "prosperity teaching" book, nor is it an investment book. It is also not a book about elementary Biblical principles intended to illustrate why tithing, giving, saving, etc. are important. It is a book for those who hold Biblical values to find support in implementing them.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Money, August 30, 2010
This review is from: Your Money God's Way: Overcoming the 7 Money Myths that Keep Christians Broke (Paperback)
This is a well-organized book. With noted prayer and scripture references this book is a must read for those who study this issue, teach on it and everyone who uses money. This book brings the heart issues down to everyday life. A mix of content and structure in a great read. I have spent many years trying to master the money monster and I was very surprised at how well this book was done! They prayers alone are worth the purchase. This book comes with a game plan. It is up to you to use it or let it sit back on your shelf. It is no get rich quick rather a common sense approach to money. You might already know everything in this book but maybe it has been a while and it is time for an organized look back. This book will not give you investing advice but it will give you lists of question to self-check. I was presently surprised by the authors real life approach to sharing thinking points, prayer and some scripture to relook at what we think and what the word says.

4.0 out of 5 stars Addressing the Root Instead of the Leaves, November 11, 2010
This review is from: Your Money God's Way: Overcoming the 7 Money Myths that Keep Christians Broke (Paperback)
Amie Streater takes a little different approach to the subject of money management. Rather than focusing exclusively on methods, she primarily addresses the underlying paradigms that our spending behaviors flow from. She addresses various "counterfeit convictions" which cause believers to be poor stewards of their money and counteracts those deceptions with the liberating truth of God's Word. She does this in a very direct and straightforward manner. She has seen every trick and excuse in the book and does not yield to a false sympathy. However, she comes as one who has been there, done that, bought the t-shirt and made it through to the other side. She also counter-balances this directness with encouragement and hope. I found myself exposed in some of the situations, as I'm sure you will to. This is no reason to shy away, but a challenge to learn to address the situation head-on and find victory in the area of finances.
