As an Amazon customer, my family has used Braverman's YOUR MONEY AND YOUR HEALTH extensively. His advice on judging a doctor's quality, cutting my medical bills, and helping me understand my medical condition and treatment has been excellent. His clear discussion on the new Medicare drug benefit allowed other family members to pick a drug plan they are quite satisfied with. As a reference book on health and money, it meets my family's needs, is very comprehensive and has useful practical advice.

My family has an individual high deductible health care plan set up with a health savings account. As such, our biggest issue is the discriminatory practices of the health care insurer(s) treating individual plan members so differently than group health members.

Altho advertised differently, Braverman offers no useful advice for someone in our situation.

The only piece of material advice offered proved to be inaccurate. In a synopsis of the book, it was stated that those searching for individual plans would also find help. That is simply not the case. There is a small reference in the middle of the book suggesting that one become a member of a specific association in Massachusetts to get group-like treatment. This particular association only offers such a benefit to folks in Mass. A number of years ago they offered plans outside of Mass.

There were no other informative suggestions.

It seems to be written for gvnt employees doing their annual hlth care plan choice. Maybe it would be helpful for them.

Wonderful insights into the medical consumer world that everyone should know these days. Easy to understand and well laid-out so you can find particular topics as needed. My compliments to the author on masterfully tackling and simplifying a very complex series of topics.

This is a thorough, carefully researched and crisply written reference work that tells all us potential patients as much as any book can about all the parts, payments and perils of the enormously complex American health care system. The chapter on hospitals, for example, has advice on how to stay out of them, what to expect and do when you have to go to one, and which ones are better than others for your particular needs.
And, the author warns, insist on a hospital bill that lists every single item you're being charged for, so you don't end up paying for more than you received. Someone had to write a book like this. I'm grateful that Braverman did.

I found the book helpful in informing me on how to best maximize my health care dollar. The terms of the industry are clarified, and one is better prepared to make informed health care decisions, after reading Mr. Barverman's book.
