5.0 out of 5 stars Read it here--or pay later, March 21, 2006
This review is from: Your Money Rules for Financial Freedom (Paperback)
As a scientist, I like things that get to the point. Though Your Money Rules for Financial Freedom is big, it's well indexed and divided so I can find what I'm interested in easily. Unlike other financial works I've read, this is not full of long stories and examples, nor is it dry or overly technical. The section on identity theft, for example, tells what it is, offers more information on how to prevent it than I've seen elsewhere, and what to do if it happens to you. There is also practical information on things I don't usually hear much about. My wife and I both used a recommended resource to get medical powers of attorney for each other for free. This also led us to a discussion of what we wanted done should there be a serious health issue. We also decided to get durable financial powers of attorney and used a low-cost kit for that. There aren't many books I can say I've read that caused me to put the information into use. I'll refer to this for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Financial Advisor You Can Have, February 27, 2008
This review is from: Your Money Rules for Financial Freedom (Paperback)
OK I've waited to write the review and I can say that I've not seen any financial news that this book didn't either already address or explain. I've not seen other books that if the advice had been followed by a young person, old person, disabled, or elderly person, would have resulted in smarter financial moves. If you or someone you care about got burnt in the mortgage meltdown, the housing market problems, new bankruptcy issues, drop in the dollar, etc. you would have benefitted from using the book--and it is meant to be USED. There are a few chapters everyone--especially politicians--should read. Then you just turn to it whenever you have a financial issue to deal with. It's in there.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing find, April 14, 2006

In my work, lots of financial books come on my desk, but usually they are so finance-speak that anyone without an MBA would find it impossible to wade through the morass of information. Michael J. Laurence has finally come up with something sensible, something useful, for just about everyone. Don't leave home without it!

There are many books on the market that provide very specific information on a narrow financial issue, such as investments, insurance, or mortgages. While they serve a purpose, those books often go into more detail than the average person needs to know. This book, while being comprehensive and accurate, covers a wide variety of finacial issues at a level most people will appreciate. It is a great starting point for advice on most of the financial issues people will face in their lives, giving very practical information. I particularly recommend it for young people who want to have a reference guide on financial issues they will face. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timely and much needed., March 22, 2006

I own this book and I've given out 4 copies to friends. Two were young folks who needed to avoid the debt pitfalls I experienced and the other two not so young, like me. I wish I'd received this kind of information advise decades ago. The sections that inteested me the most were on Identity theft, contracts and investments. The writter seems very knowledgable and the info very timely. Thanks Michael.

5.0 out of 5 stars Preschool Teacher, March 21, 2006
This review is from: Your Money Rules for Financial Freedom (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. This book ought to be required reading material for younng adults, including highschoolers. The concepts and principals in this material could help the next generation to not commit serious financial blunders that can haunt them for years into their adult lives. Sadly it is true that we are a nation of fiat money and we are debt slaves, which is compounded by outrageous interest rates on borrowed monies. It is shameful that this pathetic heritage is being passed down to the next generation without nary a word of protest or even passing concern.
