Review

"Are you one of those people who used to say in job interviews 'Money is not my main priority,' or who wants to focus on adding value rather than accumulating wealth? Want good news? Being altruistic and building a sound financial portfolio are not mutually exclusive. In this ground-breaking book, Sue Stevens shows how to make a difference for you and your loved ones while making good money. Read it and reap." --Sam Horn, The Intrigue Expert and speaker, consultant and author of POP!

"At a time when the financial world has been chaotic and scary, here is a sensible and honest book helping us to do what is both wise and novel: to express our love for life through our money. The intent is to align our money with our values and thus to lead a congruent life. A balanced financial plan will empower us to pursue whatever it is that we love and brings us joy. Sue Stevens guides us to `Portfolio Peace of Mind' and she takes the process beyond our lives, as we provide for our families and our animal companions. For those of us seeking to live the New American Dream, which is living within our means, this straightforward book is a well lit guide to help us focus on what we love in a disciplined and joyful way." --~Heath Missner, Spiritual Director

"In Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is, Sue Stevens provides solid financial and investing information in a way that many folks who find other investing books "intimidating" will relate to. A highly-qualified financial advisor and experienced writer, Sue writes to the whole person at a very human and emotional level. She shows how finances are simply one part of the total human experience as she walks readers through the steps needed to find balance between their money and their life on the way to Portfolio Peace of Mind." --Mel Lindauer, Forbes.com columnist and co-author of The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing and The Bogleheads' Guide to Retirement Planning

Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is is a winner! Sue Stevens has written a remarkable book. She's taken on a huge challenge - to inform, educate and guide the reader in taming their money dragons ... and to do so with courage, clarity, and even with joy. Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is delivers on the promise in its title. Sue places the readers' hearts and dreams at the center of their lives, and shows us - in plain English and compassionate writing, with occasional tough love and plenty of "how-to-get-there" roadmaps, and in about 150 pages - how to make the world of money and finance feed out hearts and support our dreams. According to Dante, the visitor to the Underworld is greeted with a sign saying "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here." Sue has overturned this sign. As you enter the world of money through the portal of Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is, the sign reads "Take heart, and walk with me."

It takes real nerve to begin a "money book" by listing Ten Paths to Financial Happiness, and placing "Start the day with gratitude" as number one. And it takes real wisdom to provide a roadmap for finding your trusted financial advisor - the best roadmap of its type that I've seen thus far. Reading this book is like spending a full, rich day in the safe, knowledgeable and wise company of your trusted financial guide. Read Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is and enjoy Radiant Wealth! -- Ed Jacobson, Ph.D. Author of Appreciative Moments

Most financial books these days focus on how to rebuild your wealth without actually considering what you need. Sue Stevens's book, Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is, takes a more unique, holistic approach. The book teaches you how to organize your financial matters in a way that builds your inner peace and helps others. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to achieve their financial goals without compromising their values or happiness. --Mellody Hobson, President, Ariel Investments, LLC

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Gem!, February 1, 2010
PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR HEART IS reminded me of Walden. Both are about living deliberately and well, and both are filled with good advice. It will probably be shelved under "Finance and Financial Planning" because it is a comprehensive presentation of everything a reader needs to learn in order to handle money well and use it wisely. But the book also contains a healthy element of inspirational autobiography as well as a compendium of spiritual and philosophical quotations perfectly integrated into her sharply focused text. Clearly, this writer has listened well to clients and has learned much from them, as well as from her fellow professionals, whose work she everywhere praises along the way.

Ms. Stevens provides all the self-help tools anyone might want or need, along with clear explanations of what to do with them. One of my favorite sections is called "The Stevens Wealth Management Survivor's Checklist" in which she provides a list of practical steps to take when we lose a loved one. Each step is brief, clearly explained, and vital. Nevertheless, even as she navigates for us the murkiest of financial planning waters, she says quite clearly that self-help alone is unlikely to suffice, and explains the advantages and disadvantages of each type of available help , and how best to select from among them based on one's own personal values.

The result is a book to keep on the shelf and use often, sometimes for the nuts and bolts of needed number-crunching, but just as often for ongoing inspiration. Her style is personal and conversational, friendly and informative, factual and--thankfully--never condescending. One hopes this treasure of 168 pages will live on many bookshelves, dog-eared, coffee-stained, bookmarked, underlined, well-traveled and often shared with friends, children, parents, and all others for whom we care and who share with us this increasingly complex world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, open-hearted financial guidance, April 5, 2010
This book elegantly integrates the personal and practical aspects of successful money management. In an engaging voice, the author generously shares her own experiences and philosophy about how money is but one tool to make our lives richer. I particularly appreciated how she provided a template to budget your spending with an eye towards meeting all your physical, emotional and spiritual needs - whatever they might be. The theme of re-defining wealth in broader and deeper terms wraps around specific examples of how to effectively manage the money you have. An excellent book with timeless concepts and advice. I'll refer to it often.
