    From Publishers Weekly

In the same matter-of-fact, reassuring tone as in Cole's How You Were Born , she introduces toddlers and parents to the fundamentals of toilet training. The book begins with a helpful introduction for parents that briefly but thoroughly covers such topics as when to start toilet training, how to prepare your child and switching to underpants. The focus then turns to two children, Steffie and Ben, following them as they master the use of the toilet. The photographs and text explain in toddler-geared language that growing up also includes learning to use the toilet. While the emphasis is on the progression of toilet training, Cole realistically discusses the occasional accident. Miller's bright full-color photos visually confirm the positive message of the text. Ages 2-3.

    From School Library Journal

PreSchool-- Even those who seem to have an adequate number of toilet training books will want this book. It is thoughtfully constructed to answer the questions and concerns of both parents and toddlers in a low-key and loving manner. After a six-page preface which gives some helpful tips for parents, readers are treated to Miller's bright, cheery photos of children and families. They then meet Steffie, a white girl, and Ben, a black boy, both of whom are beginning to use potties. Cole includes the cold seat and the absence of performance (two common toddler concerns) in the text, as if to remind parents to take it slow and remain calm and low-key--not always an easy task. The text continues with reassuring messages about accidents (they're normal) and sleeping in diapers (it takes a while to be totally trained). The children represented come from several ethnic groups, and fathers are present as well as mothers. The text is a bit more thorough than Fred Rogers' Going to the Potty (Putnam, 1986) but carries the same reassuring tone. This is certain to be a big hit with parents and deservedly so, since it treats one of parents' and children's big milestones in an understanding manner. --Joanna G. 5.0 out of 5 stars your new potty, June 9, 2000
    By A Customer
This review is from: Your New Potty (Paperback)
This is the best potty book we've read--and my son and I have read them all. The introduction is helpful to parents, and the progression of the toddlers in the story from diapers to underpants was realistic (for example, they still wear diapers at night).

My daughter and I love this book! It gets straight to the point, has great pictures for my daughter, and is realistic. I checked out the library's copy so often I figured I needed to buy my own.

3.0 out of 5 stars How old are these kids?, June 6, 2000

The children featured in this book "Steffie" and "Ben" both appear to be 4 or 5 years old. Maybe I am a poor judge of age, but they look older than a toddler. I wish the book made the transition from diapers to underwear more complete. I think it gives children the impression they can return to diapers if they wish. I do like the fact that it emphasizes cleaning up an accident and washing hands after using the toilet. My son really likes to look at the photos in the book.
