Introducing a great bloke who happens to be a UK Idol,

I got my first introduction to Gareth when I happened to hear the excellent single "Say It Isn't So". The timing was perfect because my best friend was leaving the country, so we played it to death.
The rest of the album is a combination of ballads, some R&B and funky pop, with a couple of funny ones, such as the highly spirited version of "Spirit in the Sky". Sure, most of the album is your standard pop fare, but it's extremely listenable pop fare, with some good beats. At worst, he sometimes comes off like a Justin Timberlake sound-alike, especially on "Groove With Me", "Club Hoppin'" and "Enough of Me" "Absolutely" has an old-time funk feel, and "All Cried Out" isn't the Lisa Lisa song, but instead samples "Human" by the Human League. "Skeletons" and "It Happens Every Time" sound like tracks from a Savage Garden album, meaning that I like those too. "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" (not the Starship song) and "Lies" are my other picks. If you're into idols, take a hop over the pond and try this one. Amanda Richards, February 4, 2005

To tell u the truth, i know gareth since he won 2nd place in debut idol series. but i just realise his full potential and vocal charismatic when only his 2nd album was release. his voice is somewhat a blend between a better version of george micheal and jacko. i hate those 2 but i should give gareth and exception. he made every song alive with his voice. Go your own way(GYOW) is a great pop album.mosty ballad and dance. either ballad or up beat song. gareth shines every track, sound so addictive almost dripping like honey. Sunshines - R&B pop track, at first listen sound usual, but as every listen it haunt u back for more replay. my fav! absolutely - funky groove pop, sexy vocal exageration. funky. all cried out - i like dis song cuz of gareth accent. british with an r&b pop twist.it has sample of 'human'. my fav! enough of me - funky groove rnb pop, sexy ooh and ahh...bluesy track with some simple guitar riff. sexy. foolish - funky dance tune - sound like elvislike song. i loves his accent on this song. cause he sing almost rapping. catchy. my fav! freak my baby - pop rnb tune, couldve been mistaken by micheal jackson song. i like the chorus. cute vocal. go your own way - rnb song, it grows on u and make u wanna listen again and again. my fav! groove with me - cute sexy groovy song. girl would buy on dis one. sexy. it happens everytime - everytime i listen to dis song, i imagine it would be good for disney soundtrack.ya know.it has some magical sound in it.lol.cute pop.singing along.my fav! just say yes - groovy rnb song. didnt like dis song that much. just the song. they shouldve pick another song to replace on dis one. listen to my heart - ballad. hmm...as usual.gareth voice alone will make u like dis song. say it isnt so - a great single. i personally like dis song cause the lyric has meaning in my life*sob*sob...this song was the key reason why i like gareth, was sad, watchin mtv, then the video came out at the right time. then there was the duet with siti on mtvasia. hope they release it as bonus in next album maybe.my fav!! spirit in the sky - cute song. the indian sound added some variety to his songs in this album. a cute song. my fav! all in all, dis album is worth to buy. gareth voice has potential to be the next robbie william. amazing voice from a guy who is a stammer.god bless him!

Amazing!,

I can't name a track on this album I don't love!! Gareth should be super proud of his work. Although I do think that overall my favourite song is "All Cried Out." It's absolutely AMAZING!!! I like how there are 2 CD's and that each has a flavour all its own. You can enjoy it all the way through, and over and over again. The first CD (Night) is more dance pop music so it's a bit funkier. The second CD (Day) is more ballads but there are some more up tempo songs on it too.

For everyone that has heard Gareth's amazing first cd "What My Heart Wants to Say", his second album, entitled "Go Your Own Way" is a suprising but magnificent growth for him. His first album is amazing and he only continues to deliver superiority on this one as well. Tthe Cd is broken up to Night and Day Cd's, perfect for any time of day.I like more of the up-beat tracks earlier on in the album but everything is worthy. It's an amazing talent and show's his grown and maturity. He also co-wrote many of the songs on the album. It's an album that everyone can enjoy. I even got one of my friends to start singing along to his stuff. Its Pop but with an r&b, funky feel to it. Some people might compare him to Justin Timberlake and some of Gareth's stuff is similar but they are different artists. I recommend you get this album along with "What my heart wants to say" and have full-on Gareth day. Tracks: 2. Groove with Me - One of my favorites on the album, its also upbeat with and r&b feel similar to the new stuff being producted by Justin Timberlake. 8/10 3. Absolutely - One of the better tracks on the album, and another favorite of mine, the chorus is catchy "Becuse your absolutely fine, that's why i'm lying here next to you..." a little suggestive but subtle 9/10 4. All Cried Out - This is a ballad with a sort up quick-tempo feel to it (r&b backdrop beat). Not like his other ballads and different and new for him. About a relationship that no longer continues to plague him. Probably my favorite track off the album 10/10 5. Enough of Me - Simlilar to "Groove with me" also an upbeat track 8/10 6. Go Your Own Way - R&b/ Pop track on the album this was one of the other songs i love instantly and i play this and a few others straight A favorite of mine. 10/10 7. Just Say Yes - This song, if you listen carefully is so cheeky of Gareth! Upbeat and dancy also, this is a favorite of mine and i was hooked on this after just 30 seconds. "If you want me to come over, just say yes. Cuz baby you know that's one word you won't regret ..." It will make you get out of your chair and start dancing around the room. 10/10 8. Freak My Baby - as the title suggests, this is a rather cheeky song also by Gareth that is also upbeat as the others on this cd. Perfect dancing song 10/10 9. Club Hoppin - Upbeat.. something to play in a club to get the people moving. 7/10 10. Soul Affection - A ballad-type of song, more typical of the stuff from his first album 8/10 11. Spirit in the Sky - remake of a popular 80's song, Spirit in the sky involves the Kumars and a sitar. 8/10 12. Say it Isn't So - a beautiful ballad and just heartfelt and sweet. One of the best , if not the best ballad on here. 9/10 13. Skeletons - upbeat pop song that isn't one of my favorites on the album 5/10 14. Listen to my Heart - another balled also beautiful and just behind Say it Isn't so. 8/10 15. Foolish - I love this song. Upbeat and makes you want to dance. The first lyric "Love is a a drug and i fell like getting high" His song is the drug that gets me high. A favorite 10/10 16. Too Soon To Say Goodbye - mid tempo pop song. Not ballad/but not dancy song either. Right in the middle 7/10 17. Lies - another up tempo song but it doesn't stand out like some of the others 6/10 18. Nothings going to stop us now - another decent track from Gareth 7/10 19. It Happens Everytime - up tempo pop song but this is not one of my preferred tracks 4/10 Awesome album.. Now that you've read this.. What are you waiting for?? Go buy it!!!!!

Gareth Up & Down,
This review is from: Go Your Own Way (Audio CD)
Reality music shows have become so popular that most of the new upcoming artists were, at one point or another, contestants on a show. Bands like O-Town have made successful careers out of the coverage that reality shows give them. The United Kingdom started a show by the name of Pop Idol, which was so successful it grew to become a worldwide phenomenon adopted by various broadcasting networks. The US launched an American Pop Idol show shortly after, and the reality-fever also hit the Arab world with the Superstar program. Kelly Clarkson the winner of the first American Idol series released a weak album with one track that mustered up a solid single by the title of "Miss Independent" - not because of Clarkson's talent, but because it was written by Christina Aguilera. Other than that we have yet to see a reality-show career soar on something other than cover versions and bland balladry. Gareth Gates reached second place in UK's Pop Idol and managed to maintain a career. This sophomore release starts out with a promising tone. "Go Your Own Way" is a double CD which could fit on one disc, but marketing ploys come before music when you are much admired by most 12-year-old teeny boppers. The first CD "Night", is a surprising treat. It contains the silky number "Sunshine" - a fine opener to a well-leveled disc. In fact "Night" is so warm it is reminiscent, but in no way equal, to Michael Jackson's disco era. Gates tackles the hassles of fame with "Enough Of Me," all with angry singing and rock riff. "Club Hoppin" is a nightlife ditty with feet-tapping beats. The disc goes on to bring back some Wham! Nostalgia with "Absolutely," which is a definite stomper. The second disc "Day" puts the success of "Night" to an abrupt end. "Day" is a nauseatingly formulaic effort. "Go Your Own Way" seems to be a compromise between Gareth and his record company. Both discs are offered for the same price as a one-disc album. The purchase is worth the first disc alone.

Gareth Grooves on this cd,
By A Customer
This review is from: Go Your Own Way (Audio CD)
"Go Your Own Way" is a double cd that has some hot, grooving tunes on it. The top 3 hit, "Sunshine," starts off the Day cd with a hip swaying rhythmic beat that gets you up on your feet. Some other great dance tunes are "Freak My Baby," "Groove With Me," and "Club Hoppin'." If you like a harder edge, "Enough of Me" rocks with some great guitar riffs. The Night cd has the number 1 hit "Spirit in the Sky" and some sweet melodic songs like "Say It Isn't So" and "Listen to My Heart." Of course, Gareth Gates' vocals are the key to the tracks. A must have cd for any Gareth Gates fan. This is a well crafted pop cd.
