Grade 5-8-Each of these titles adopts a scenario-based approach, employing a variety of victims and situations to put a human face on two highly charged topics. Both are written for reluctant or less-capable readers and are easy to understand. Unfortunately, the color photos of children and families of various ethnicities are more decorative than informative. While the books share aspects of format and layout, there are distinctive differences in content. In Violence, much of the text is devoted to Giacobello's viewpoint without benefit of references to back up his advice and assertions. In Divorce, Krohn does an exemplary job in presenting the facts along with comments from recognized experts.

More About the Author

Katherine Elizabeth Krohn was born in Bitburg, Germany in 1961. At the time, her father, Don, was a physician in the United States Air Force. Her mother, Betty, was a homemaker. When Katherine was born, she had two older brothers (William and David) and an older sister (Vicki). A few months after her birth, the Krohns returned to the States and settled in the Detroit-area.

Krohn attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She currently lives in the Pacific Northwest.
