Book Description

Two childhood best friends wake up the morning after their twentieth high school reunion to discover that they’ve switched bodies in this hilarious and heartwarming debut by two childhood best friends.

With “a delicious, page-turning premise, and sweet and surprising insights” (New York Times bestselling author Jen Lancaster), Your Perfect Life perfectly illustrates that old adage: Sometimes, you have to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes to see what’s in her heart.

Best friends since childhood, Casey and Rachel couldn’t lead more different lives. While workaholic Casey rubs elbows with celebrities daily as the host of Gossip TV and comes home nightly to an empty apartment, stay-at-home mom Rachel juggles an “oops” baby, two fiery teenagers, and a husband who barely seems the man she fell in love with two decades before. After an argument at their twentieth high school reunion, Casey and Rachel throw back shots to get the night back on track. Instead, they get a life-changing hangover.

Waking up in each other’s bodies the next morning, they must figure out how to navigate their altered realities. Rachel is forced to face the broadcasting dreams she gave up when she got pregnant in college, and Casey finally steps out of the spotlight to face the real reason why she’s alone. And they soon discover that they don’t know themselves—or their best friend—nearly as well as they thought they did.

Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke bring their “witty, winning style” (Sarah Pekkanen, author of The Best of Us) to every page of this novel that is sure to please fans of In Her Shoes and The Opposite of Me. Your Perfect Life is a story of humor and heart about two best friends, what they didn’t know about each other, and how, by switching lives, each learns to appreciate her own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Summer Read! June 12, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just raced through reading Your Perfect Life by Liz Fenton & Lisa Steinke - it was a fun summer read! Best friends Casey and Rachel end up switching bodies and lives after a high school reunion. Casey is single and a successful TV host while Rachel is a busy, tired stay-at-home mom. Their story may have been told before but I really enjoyed reading this book! If you are looking for a light beach read, I'd recommend this book and it could be a good book club book as there is a discussion guide in the back of the book.

From the very first line, I couldn't put down "Your Perfect Life" - I read it from start to finish in one night! The characters come to life right away, and with every turn of the page, you start to ponder your own life and friendships. The book is funny, yet truly thought provoking: if you had a chance at a different life, would you want it? I love that it was written by two friends - you got to really feel the true ups and downs of friendship at all stages of life. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ignore your kids, read this book! June 17, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The only problem with Your Perfect Life is the effect it had on my parenting. I pretty much neglected my kids for an entire day because I couldn't stop reading it! Liza and Lisa really captured the ups and downs of a long term friendship, especially what happens when lives go in new directions. I laughed out loud enough times that my kids thought I was a little crazy (which I could be), and I sniffled through the last few chapters like a cry-baby (which I am). Once I was done all I wanted was to chat with my best friend, but since I'd stayed up late to finish I had to settle for an "I love you" text and response in the morning from her. But that's what friendship and this book is all about, making those life long relationships work no matter what.

5.0 out of 5 stars This one made me cry toward the end! June 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Two best friends wake up one morning to discover that something made them switch bodies. As they try to navigate one another’s lives, they learn that those lives don’t fit into their preconceived notions and that the definition of a “perfect” life may not be so clear cut. Best friends and authors Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke offer this premise that may surprise readers with its heart and depth in their debut novel Your Perfect Life.

Casey and Rachel, friends since high school, have stopped talking as frequently as they once did. While they both studied broadcasting in college, only Casey got to fulfill the dreams they shared. After working her way up the ladder, she now leads the airwaves as cohost of one of the top celebrity gossip shows. With a personal assistant who doubles as a life coach and most of the stars at her beck and call, on the surface Casey seems to have all a career woman could ever want.

Following an unexpected pregnancy, Rachel dropped out of college to marry her longtime boyfriend. They’ve shared more than two decades, but lately Rachel feels like they’ve become strangers. The fire they once shared has dimmed to a pinpoint of light. Her teenagers give her a hard time as teens are wont to do. Her third “surprise” child leaves her feeling more exhausted than she can remember with her other children. More than anything Rachel wishes she could take a break from it all.

The women meet at their twentieth high school reunion. Both attend with little enthusiasm. Casey struggles with the fact that her love life is as nonexistent as her public life is visible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun summer beach read! June 18, 2014
Format:Paperback
Your Perfect Life, written by dual authors Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke, was made for a relaxing day working on your tan. It follows life-long best friends Casey and Rachel to their twenty-year high school reunion, where they switch bodies thanks to a supernatural shot concocted by a cute bartender. While the premise of the book is not quite original—I can think of three books and movies about this very thing—the authors’ treatment of the idea was funny and fast paced. Casey is an entertainment television host and Rachel a stay-at-home mom, each seemingly living only half a life. When the switcheroo happens they get to experience the other side: a career for Rachel and a family for Casey.

This book is full of many laugh-out-loud moments as the ladies navigate the tricky world of living in their BFF’s body. I mean, what would you do if your bestie’s husband wanted to sleep with you thinking you were his wife …? Yuck! And going from changing diapers all day to interviewing celebs would leave my head spinning too. The body switch comes with an important lesson; by the end of the novel they realize that they were both missing out on important aspects of their life. Casey admits that she wants a family and Rachel wants to work outside the home.

Definitely pick this one up for your next vacation.
