4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful book
This book has some great, up-to-date information in it, but the girly-girl tone gets old. I turn 50 this month and can't imagine caring about some of the stuff the author considers essential. I started laughing when I read "The Eight Cosmetics Every Woman Over Forty Has To Have: Face Primer, Skin Illuminator, Concealer, Light-diffusing Foundation, Bronzer, Cream or Gel...

I think the book is very flippant and uninformative. If you are looking for hard facts, skip this one. I'd like to return it for a refund and I'd be embarrased to pass it on.

This book has some great, up-to-date information in it, but the girly-girl tone gets old. I turn 50 this month and can't imagine caring about some of the stuff the author considers essential. I started laughing when I read "The Eight Cosmetics Every Woman Over Forty Has To Have: Face Primer, Skin Illuminator, Concealer, Light-diffusing Foundation, Bronzer, Cream or Gel Blush, Anti-feathering Lip Pencil/Lip Gloss, and Lash Extender." Is she serious?

Exercise, a healthy diet, and fresh air will do more for your looks than any cosmetics.

I also laughed when I read, "...if you don't want to change your look in any dramatic fashion (although that is what makes being a girl so much fun!)..."

Sometimes I felt like I was reading a fashion magazine instead of a book about menopause. Maybe this book was written for women in New York City or Hollywood?

5.0 out of 5 stars What a relief!!!, May 26, 2005
This review is from: Your Perfectly Pampered Menopause: Health, Beauty, and Lifestyle Advice for the Best Years of Your Life (Paperback)
Your Perfectly Pampered Menopause coincided with my hot flashes, bizarre itching, weird memory loss and irrational meltdowns, culminating with one in Amy's Bread because they let ONE PERSON buy all their brioche loaves. So, even though I just turned 48, it never occurred to me that I might be going through perimenopause--duh--until a friend turned me on to this fantastic book. I knew I was on to something when I looked at chapter 9 Your Brain on Menopause...Or, why you cry when the bakery is out of rye bread. No coincidence. This book is hilarious and chock full of comforting information--I'm not losing my mind!!!--and sound advice. I now carry it around with me and not just because I keep forgetting to take it out of my bag...okay, I do forget...But this is an awesome book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Menopause and So Much More!, August 12, 2006
This review is from: Your Perfectly Pampered Menopause: Health, Beauty, and Lifestyle Advice for the Best Years of Your Life (Paperback)
I read two free excerpts of this book on WebMD and they were both wonderful - filled with great information and very helpful suggestions. So I bought the book - and I wasn't disappointed - it was even better than what I read online. It is definitely one of the only menopause books I know of that discusses all treatment options - both traditional and non-traditional, plus it also is a great resource for mid-life health in general. It not only covers traditional menopause symptoms - like hot flashes and night sweats and memory loss - it also offers important information on bone health, on mid-life weight gain, fatigue, women and heart disease, hair loss, incontinence, reducing cancer risks, - so it's really so much more than just a meonpause book. In fact, you really get your money's worth with this one! But again, that's what I've come to expect from what I read on WebMD - they always feature the best and most informative articles. Wow - a great book!

This review is from: Your Perfectly Pampered Menopause: Health, Beauty, and Lifestyle Advice for the Best Years of Your Life (Paperback)
Of all things, my husband bought me this book! He knew I was suffering with so many symptoms - and thought this book would help!At first I was angry- but I got over it, and when I read this book it practically changed my life. It eased my mind about many problems, and offered concrete solutions for others. It's also hysterically funny - made me look at my life in a whole new way! This book should be REQUIRED READING by every woman over 45! It's also easy to read and understand, and follow - plus it has a fabulous website that also offers a lot of help. If you are having any type of menopause related problems - or perimenopause - don't miss this book - it's the best one,and I've read them all!

This review is from: Your Perfectly Pampered Menopause: Health, Beauty, and Lifestyle Advice for the Best Years of Your Life (Paperback)
This is a lighthearted approach to understanding a serious subject. I have purchased numerous copies to share with friends. I highly recommend this book to those whodo not want a clinical outlook. This book will make you laugh out loud at some of her experiences. I have found it to be a great resource asI sift through the "pause".

This is a great book! Easily the best one I've bought on menopause. It gives information you really want - sections on skin care, nutrition, exercise, sex, and what's really happening and what experiences others had. It answered all of my questions and it's also fun to read. If you want to just buy one book to read about all your menopause symptoms and what to to - buy this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Right of Passage", April 13, 2005
This review is from: Your Perfectly Pampered Menopause: Health, Beauty, and Lifestyle Advice for the Best Years of Your Life (Paperback)
Colette Bouchez has done it yet once more. Ms. Bouchez's book, "Your Perfectly Pampered Menopause" is enlightening and fun. Ms.Bouchez covers the aspects of menopause that your doctor may not tell you about. Where ever you are in your memopause cycle I recommend this book.

Colette Bouchez takes menopause out of the "Dark Ages" and turns into a "right of passage"!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Book On Menopause!, May 22, 2005
This review is from: Your Perfectly Pampered Menopause: Health, Beauty, and Lifestyle Advice for the Best Years of Your Life (Paperback)
This book was one of the smartest and most complete books on menopause and midlife health I've read. It's not only smart and well researched, but it's easy and even fun to read - because it's also filled with very funny menopause stories, at least some of which sounded like they were right out of my own diary!

The medical information is well researched and sound,(I brought a few of the suggestions to my doctor who was also impressed!) and unlike books written by physicians who give you their opinion only, this book was written by a medical journalist so it gives you a whole slew of treatment options - unbiased and unjudgemental. I like that she leaves it up to me to decide what's right - instead of preaching her solution as the solution for everyone the way some of the other menopause books do.

In addition to the medical information, the information on anti-aging skin care and cosmetics was a real eye opener. So was the section on diet and weight loss - fabulous.

Easily the best book around on "the Change" and I know you won't be sorry if you spend your money here. Oh one more thing - ignore the silly cover and title - they have NOTHING to do with this otherwise very important book!
