4.0 out of 5 stars Introduction to Flying & Pilot's License
Your Pilot's License provides a simple, concise guide to getting your license to fly. Eichenberger describes both how to actually fly a plane as well as the process by which one learns how and is licensed to do so. Eichenberger's experience as a flight instructor (CFI) clearly shows, as much of the book reads like a flight lesson.

The book is a must-read for anyone...

4.0 out of 5 stars Introduction to Flying & Pilot's License, September 1, 2003

Your Pilot's License provides a simple, concise guide to getting your license to fly. Eichenberger describes both how to actually fly a plane as well as the process by which one learns how and is licensed to do so. Eichenberger's experience as a flight instructor (CFI) clearly shows, as much of the book reads like a flight lesson.

The book is a must-read for anyone thinking about taking up flying or who has just started taking lessons. Not only does is summarize what to expect, it also provides a wealth of knowledge that should help make your lessons more effective. Eichenberger explains complicated concepts in simple English. Particularly helpful to the beginning pilot will be his explanations of how lift works and how to "fly the box" taking wind into account.

For those who have been flying for a period of time, the book offers very little (other than perhaps nostalgia about those first flights). If you don't already know what is covered in this book (and in some areas, significantly more than is covered) you really shouldn't be flying a plane.

For those looking to get their flight instructor certificate, this book holds particular value as it will help you learn how to teach your students! It is also very helpful in remaining us how if felt "from the other side."

Hello flyers! Greetings from student pilot from Teterboro Aiport. After reading this book from cover to cover, I feel that I have acquired sufficient knowledge to continue in my flying lessons without a cloud in my head. It filled in the blanks and I wish it went furtehr than 300 or so pages. The book's anecdotal style makes general aviation easier to understand. Certainly, in my case at least, it was more enjoyable to read than a manual on flight with test questions after every chapter. This is not that kind of book, to its benefit. I learned a lot from this book, and I feel that I will have an easier time in my flying lessons because of it.

I'm planning on taking up flying as a career and this book did a lot to explain to me the different licenses and ratings and also explains how the plane flies and the aerodynamics. Before, I was clueless and now I know what to do. Thanks!

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction for future private pilots., August 21, 1998

In clear, conversational prose, this book outlines the process of becoming a pilot. While the authors' enthusiasm for flying permeates the book, the material is grounded in a respect for safety. The book covers, and de-mystifies, choosing an instructor, legal and medical requirements, flight concepts, weather, navigation, and communications.

I have always wanted to get my pilot's license, and I came across this book and decided to read it. This book explains all about what steps you need to go through and what to expect when starting flight training to get your private pilot's license. I had no idea that so much was involved before I read this!

If you are thinking of getting your pilot's license, I suggest that you read this book. I am now finishing up my Private Pilot training, and the book was very accurate about the training involved. Very informational and highly recommended!!

Greeting from Cleveland (BKL) Airport. This is one excellent book. It is a book if you are thinking about starting flying. It goes into detail but it is real basic. It has help me out greatly, even after 60 hours of flying. Good Luck.

I am a CFI (Certificated Flight Instructor) and have read several popular 'Private Pilot Training' manuals. Many of them are expensive, and very thick. I don't use them though...I use THIS book. It covers 90% of what I want covered in ground school, and I augment it with other materials as I see fit. It is quite inexpensive, and it is very well-written. I highly recommend this book to prospective pilots, to student pilots, and to certificated pilots as a handy 'quick refresher'. If you have ever considered becoming a pilot (trust me, it is worth every penny), this this book gives you a great overview of what flying is about.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Starting Point, March 8, 2009
This review is from: Your Pilot's License (Paperback)
This book reads a bit like a reference book and a bit like textbook. Many problems I have when trying to do something I've never done before (i.e. flying) is that I never know where to start. Knowing that I don't know what I don't know can turn me off to a new activity quickly. This book gives a good overview of what kinds of flying are available, what you can expect to spend, where to look for like-minded people in your area, finding mentors to help you, choosing a flight instructor and many other types of knowledge you will need to not only pass ground school, but apply during your check ride. It also tells you what to expect with that, too.

Overall a great book to show your ignorance of the subject and how to make yourself smart. I hihghly recommend it for anyone wanting a "pilot's primer." If you already know a bit about the flying culture, this book might not be for you but may still have insights you may have overlooked or refresh your knowledge on certain points.
