Touching and Fun Interplanetary Romance,
By
This review is from: Your Planet or Mine? (Otherworldly Men, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
At the age of nine, Jana rescues a glowing boy from a tree outside her bedroom window. She thinks of him as "Peter" and later convinces herself he was only her "imaginary" friend. Many years later, as a California state senator, she encounters an alien visitor in a supermarket. It's "Peter," real name Cavin, who has come to warn her that Earth has been designated for "acquisition" (supposedly benevolent) by the interstellar Coalition in whose military he is a high-ranking officer. Funny, tender, sexy, and suspenseful, this SF romance has it all. Jana is a delightful heroine, and her political dynasty family supplies a cast of likable supporting characters. In the process of deciding how to introduce Cavin to Earth's governments without either being dismissed as crazy or getting him locked up and "disappeared," she and Cavin have to combat Jana's political enemies as well as an extraterrestrial threat. Grant even manages to inspire some sympathy for the Terminator-like assassin pursuing Cavin. Along with the serious plot elements, there's plenty of fish-out-of-water fun as Jana helps Cavin adjust to the oddities of Earth culture and, of course, sexual tension as the two of them strive to resist their mutual attraction in order to keep focused on the crisis at hand. I loved every minute of this novel.

A Thrilling, Romantic Adventure,

This review is from: Your Planet or Mine? (Otherworldly Men, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a huge fan of Susan Grant's novels, and this latest one I would place at the very top of her list in terms of wit, sexiness, unstoppable pacing. I literally couldn't stop reading this book and go to bed--and I was really tired. But I found myself turning and turning, having to go deeper into the book.
From the incredibly tender prologue to the fast-paced adventure, I loved every moment of this fantastic new book from one of my favorite authors.

Jana Jasper was the one member of her family who lacked the gift of gab until magic entered her life. After saving the life of a boy she dubbed Peter, as in Pan, she made three wishes. One was to be able to speak, and after exchanging an innocent kiss, she can. Then, Peter disappears, and it looks as if her most special wish can not come true, and Jana dismisses the whole incident as a lonely girl with an imaginary playmate. Then, "Peter" reappears, at the grocery store, decked out like someone from a video game. At first, she can not believe her friend is back and is real, but it is true, Peter is real. He is Cavin Far Star, an alien who has defied his people to come and warn Jana in hopes of being able to prevent her home world from being taken over by his planet's fleet. Though Jana is thrilled to see Cavin, it is so not a good time for her as she is now a senator, and needs to avoid scandals, like having handsome alien men stay the night. Unfortunately, there is an alien assassin who makes the Terminator look friendly, and he is out for Cavin, and now, Jana's blood. Assaulted on multiple fronts, Jana and Cavin are in a race against time to save the world so that they, and everyone else on Earth, can have a future.
**** It might be safe to say this is one of Susan Grant's best yet. Despite the comical title, this is a thrilling action/adventure with a healthy shot of romance. There is plenty of humor, but just the right amount. Take the elements of every good sci-fi romance and add in a political thriller for spice, and you would have part of the recipe for this. There is a secret ingredient, but that is the author's own special touch, something that can not be replicated, just enjoyed. **** Reviewed by Amanda Killgore for Huntress Reviews.

Although I read and very much enjoyed the author's contribution in Mysteria, this was my first Susan Grant novel, and it won't be my last! The action never slowed down...the chemistry between Cavin and Jana was palpable. I just loved it! From the tender prologue to the sexy ending, Your Planet Or Mine was a highly entertaining story. I can't wait for the next book with Jared and the queen!

What a great title!,

This review is from: Your Planet or Mine? (Otherworldly Men, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I decided to grab Your Planet or Mine? by Susan Grant when I heard positive reviews on a forum that I frequent. It incorporates science fiction, romance and comedy. So I thought I had to give a try just for that! I wasn't disappointed. This was such a fun read!
An alien comes to earth to warn the earth that an invasion is coming, and to capture the heart of a young woman that he met years ago. The "romance" scenes get a little steamier than I prefer, but they don't overshadow the story. I'll definitely be checking out some of her other scifi/romance books: The Legend of Banzai Maguire and The Scarlet Empress from the 2176 series.

Mute nine year old Jana Jasper saved the life of a boy she called Peter (after Peter Pan). Afterward he grants her three wishes; the first being able to speak surprisingly occurs; the second kissing Peter also happens; the third is that one day he will marry her when they grow up. However, just after that Peter vanishes without a trace, she wonders if a lonely girl hallucinated up a friend as her sister, grandfather, and parents insist.
Several years later she next sees her Peter in a grocery wearing odd grab that would be more suited for a romantic fantasy novel. This time Peter does not disappear. Instead he explains to great orator Senator Jana Jasper that he is Cavin Far Star from a planet far way. He has come to earth to warn the natives that his people are coming to invade with a powerful armada on the way. However, someone else from his planet has arrived with the mission to kill Cavin and any allies he has made especially the earthling he loves. YOUR PLANET OR MINE? Is a terrific romantic science fiction tale that is filled with action from the moment that Jana sees the odd boy in the tree outside her window and never slows down as they try to save the earth with a dose of self-deprecating humor. The literally star-crossed lovers are a likable pair that enable the audience to believe in Cavin's world and the magic so eloquently explain by grandpa in everyday life. Harriet Klausner

I have liked all of Susan Grant's other books and I really tried to like this one. But I could not like Jana and the book felt like it was a cartoon. These characters never left the drawing board, and the plot was just stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started and stopped reading four or five times, I kept thinking I would get to a point that I would like the people and the plot would make more sense. I got tired of the way the author tried to be funny and most of it did not come off. O K I am only one reviewer but I think it would have been better without the attempt to interject humor all the time. I am just giving you my opinion. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD! Cavin comes to earth as a little boy and sees Jana, they never even talk, but when he is 35 he comes back to save her and her planet from his people's army which wants to conquor Earth and move it's inhabitants off to some other planet. Cavin is not only a member of the army he is a very highly placed officer and has been selected to marry the Queen. His only thought his whole life has been to save Jana and her world. Jana is a nine yr old girl who can not talk, she is from a family like the Kennedys, in other words a political dynasty. Cavin cures her speech problem and she goes on to be a Senator by the time he comes back. The rush to keep the press from finding out what is going on and the media bias against her family was to much like reality. I got tired of it!!!!!!!!!! We are told numerous times of the hard body and great looks and fantastic abs that Cavin has. The tonque-in-cheek writing doesn't really work and the cute plays on words totally make this seem like a cartoon. Complete with cartoon characters. I really wanted to like this book, after all I paid for it, but it was a waste of time and money. Some authors can do humor well and some can't, I loved the STAR KING, STAR PRINCE, and STAR PRINCESS. CONTACT was great, but these were serious books not trying to be funny.

A Genre Blender that Delivers,
By
This review is from: Your Planet or Mine? (Otherworldly Men, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
Your Planet or Mine? by Susan Grant was a fast-paced, suspenseful, lively read. It's a rare blend of science ficton and romance with a clear tilt toward romance. Despite an unfortunate title (that has nothing really do to with the plot) and a very silly cover (never judge and all that ...) the story delivers thrills, suspense, romance, some comedy and even political commentary. The story revolves around Cavin Far Star, a soldier from a society of planets that has come to Earth to find a woman he first met when he was a boy visiting Earth with his father. Oh, and while he's here, he's going to try to fool the Coalition that the Earth already has space worthy aircraft and maybe they should give up the invasion idea.
Homage to other sci-fi exists in droves here. And it's a lot of fun finding them along the way. The Coalition reminds us of Farscape's Peacekeepers. Not to mention the heroes surname. The Terminator is given it's due with a great Terminator-like secondary character that is trying to kill Cavin. But to give Grant her due, her treatment of this terminator elevated far above mindless killer. He was more human and able to reason and change. (Oh, and he called himself Reef, which couldn't help but make me think of Reese from The Terminator movie.) The scenes with this character stole the book. That and the Chihuahua. Grant has a light comedic touch, especially through the first third of the book. But when she gets a little dark and the menace grows that's where her writing really shines. I haven't read anything else by this author yet, but if she's done some more serious fare I'd bet it's fantastic. So as you wait for Caprica to start definitely ignore both the title and the cover and give this hard to classify book a try.

I'm sitting outside reading this book. I'm laughing so much that my husband came outside and asked me, "What's so funny?" I said. "This book and I think I'm in love." Hubby gave me a "funny-look", I just shrugged and kept on reading.
If you want a good book to read this one is it. I really got involved with the main characters (I love her HEADLINES). I could not put this book down. I was so sorry to read the last page. I have ordered the other books in this series. "Come on mailman .... LOL"

This is new style for author Grant. A lighter tone, a freer tone, and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me a bit of that old Twilight Zone episode where the old man is really a prince hiding on earth and he falls for little girl who is crippled. Not saying the plot line is anything alike, just that sort of feel. Grant evokes that sort of timeless sense of when the world was a bit gentler than it is now. I am looking forward to more in the series that begins with this promising start.
