On Your Potty! (George and Bartholomew)

In the highly populated potty book market, this book captures but one aspect: trying to get to the potty in time. Author illustrator Virginia Miller offers spare text in large easy-to-read print and drawings in pencil and colored marker featuring a lovable bear named Bartholomew (Ba for short). When his papa George asks, Do you need your potty, Ba? his son responds Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, NAH! My girls thought this hysterical and began repeating it (almost to the point of tedium). Read this book for entertainment only. To introduce the functional aspects of the toilet training process, such as what actually goes in the potty, wiping, flushing, and washing up, try these more instructional potty books: The Potty Book for Girls by Alyssa Satin Capucilli, You Can Go to the Potty by Dr. Sears or What To Expect When You Use the Potty by Heidi Murkoff.

Kindly dad George invites Bartholomew bear to sit on his potty, but Ba, in true toddler fashion, refuses. Later, though, when he's playing, the urge overtakes him and he runs to the potty in the nick of time... and, of course George congratulates him with a big bear hug. Virginia Miller's illustrations have a beutifully sure touch and the bears' facial expressions are very evocative of the powerful emotions surrounding this sometimes tricky time. "This had lovely pictures but the message didn't get across strongly enough to encourage Florence to sit on her own potty"

Not a great potty training book. But a very fun book about potty training. We love all the books by this author!

I have not read any other books in this series, so maybe there is something endearing about George and Ba that I'm missing, but I'm hard pressed to imagine what.

I don't know which part I liked less... the forcing the kid to sit on the potty even though he said he didn't have to go (and he was right...he didn't go!). Or maybe it was the over-authoritarian BIG VOICE with which George ordered him to the potty. Or maybe it was the rewarding of the eventual pottying with a hug (the only apparent display of love or support in the book).

The running for the potty when he realized he finally had to go was cute, but doesn't make up for the rest of the book. Leave this on the "shelf," so to speak -- for a GREAT book on Potty Learning, check out Time to Pee!

I think the book is funny but my son who is almost 2 1/2 isn't interested in it. He'd rather read "You can go to the potty" by the Sears.

Ba is typical little kid getting potty trained. Doesn't think he needs potty until almost too late and afterwards both Ba and George are proud. Funny pictures!

ok, ok, so this isnt the traditonal potty book, but its cute, the pitcures are cute and my son loves the "NAH" parts, he cracks up laughing,this is a must get book. and its short too which is really nice for those little ones who dont want to spend alot of time on the potty and want to play

I didn't like this book it really didn't have any useful information in it but to my 2.5 year old, it was funny!
