5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for parents of preemie toddlers.
This is the only resource I have found that still provides information for my eighteen month old twins that were born at 26 weeks. 3.0 out of 5 stars Better books out there
I did not use this book much at all. I thought books by Joseph A. Garcia-Prats and Dana Wechsler Linden were much more helpful.

Our twin preemies were born at the begining of December 1999, by the end of December we knew we needed HELP ! We bought this book and have used it almost everyday since. Because of this book we were able to diagnose a problem with one of our sons before the doctor even saw him. When we told him the signs and symptoms of the problem and what we thought was the cause he agreed and was amazed that we even knew about the problem. We would not have known if we did not have this book. It also makes you feel like you are not alone coping with a premature infant. We have gotten more information from this book than we got from our local hospital. My husband and I would recommend this book to anyone that has a premature infant or infants. Thank you very much for writing this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential resource for every parent of a premature baby., September 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Your Premature Baby and Child (Paperback)
Your Premature Baby and Child by Amy Tracy and Dianne Maroney provides support and valuable information for one of the most difficult tasks of raising a child born prematurely - the transition home from the hospital. This book is an essential resource for every parent of a premature baby - it continues the story of caring for your premature baby from the point where other books stop. Although the intensity of experience lessons after leaving the hospital, parents find themselves in a new world in providing for a baby with special needs. Now the parents are the ones who are ultimately responsible for the health and well being of their child - it is an immense and sometimes frightening responsibility, requiring parents to assume many new roles. The excellent selection of quotes from parents bring a level of emotional depth and experience to the Your Premature Baby and Child both valuable and affirming to parents going down the same road.

This was the best book I have seen for premature babies. When our twin boys were born at 29 weeks, the hospital gave us a book that we could refer to. Everytime you would look at the book it scared you to death. I found this book and I kept it with me at all times. When ever anything came up I would refer to it. The book is very realistic but also very positive. I still refer to it even though our boys are 2. The book is very helpful. I would recomend this book to everyone. It really helped us out through this difficult time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive resource for parents of preemies, September 24, 2001
This review is from: Your Premature Baby and Child (Paperback)
Nothing can prepare you for the experience of having a premature baby. Often, once home with baby, parents are confronted with a child who is obviously different from the typical infant. Finding information and support is difficult, because of the very isolating nature of the experience- a tiny, often ill baby isn't able to cope with being carried to environments where parents could find support. In addition, outcomes are difficult to predict and preemies' issues can be as diverse as their personalities. Fortunately, Amy Tracy and Dianne Maroney's Your Premature Baby and Child provides insight and information in a practical guide that should reside on every preemie parent's bookshelf. Each chapter offers honest assurances about the emotional aspects of caring for a preemie, as well as accurate and detailed information about everything ranging from the homecoming experience, medical concerns, development and early intervention all the way through to beginning school. The epilogue is especially helpful; it validates the emotional effects of prematurity and offers insights from other parents, whose hope and understanding encourage those new to the roller coaster of prematurity. This book is one of the best resources written yet for parents of children born prematurely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for parents!!!!, November 15, 2001
This review is from: Your Premature Baby and Child (Paperback)
I purchased this book after the premature birth of our son. He was considered a "micro preemie" being born at 1 lb 14 oz. We were told in the NICU that many preemies have challenges that were unlike "typical" children, and we thought it would be helpful to refer to this book and to educate ourselves so that we could help identify problems that many pediatricians overlook in preemies.

This book is an absolute must-have for any parent of a preemie. I know that weight is always a concern, and the book included boy and girl weight charts and seperated it even further to their birth weight (born less than/greater than 1500 grams.) We still use the weight chart today (our son is 2 1/2 years old)
and it can be used up to age 3.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think this is the best preemie resource available today., September 3, 1999

This review is from: Your Premature Baby and Child (Paperback)
Parents excitedly look forward to the birth of a healthy full-term baby. Sometimes their desire and dreams are shattered with the arrival of a premature infant. "Your Premature Baby and Child" is an excellent resource that guides parents as they cope with the complex medical issues and long term problems associated with prematurity. But, it is much more than just a medical resource. It also offers advice and support from parents who have been there and survived. Not only will this manual be a tool for parents, it should also serve as a guide for pediatricians, therapists and educators. It can help the "medical expert," realize some of the many challenges faced by parents and children born prematurely and allow them to better serve the entire family. The list of contributors is extensive and varied. The information is technical sound and medically accurate. Each section of the book gives a good mixture of accurate medical information, true-life experiences and practical advice for parents. I recommend this book to anyone who has ever had a baby in the NICU or anyone who works with preemies in general. I also recommend that every hospital include it in their library of resources for parents. I think this is the best preemie resource available today.

5.0 out of 5 stars everything a premature baby's parent may need to read, April 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Your Premature Baby and Child (Paperback)
this is a great book on premature baby issues. It does not concentrate on the ICU info that you might need (doctors and nurses are very helpful on this part). It's all about what happens once home, what you should keep an eye for, what to do, etc. The book is wonderfully written without the patronising tone writers sometimes use when talking to parents, as if they know it all! I would strongly recommend this book for any parent with a premature baby who wants to feel more comfortable once the little one is back home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, February 21, 2009
This review is from: Your Premature Baby and Child (Paperback)
This is a book that answer most of my queries about my little one. It is simple and straight to the point and fast to absorb and to be read. As looking after a Newborn esp.a Preemie is very time consuming and tedious, thus I have no time for long-winded books...This is a great book! It also tells me what to look out for in my baby!
