Book Description

April 1, 1993
When secrecy and denial surrounds the topic of teenage sex, the results can be tragic-AIDS, HIV, and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). In a clear, and non-judgmental fashion, Dr. Jenny McCloskey explains the various types of STD's, their symptoms, how they are transmitted and how to protect yourself against them. Includes an overview of male and female anatomy, what to expect from an STD examination, and how to use holistic health techniques to take control of your own body. An invaluable resource for teens parents and health educators.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

The average age of first intercourse is often much earlier than parents imagine. The secret sex lives of teenagers are often conducted in ignorance and that leads them to take serious health risks. If you've got a teenager-even if you are sure they are not sexually active-buy them this book. -Dr. Barbara Seagle, Obstetrician/Gynecologist Boston MA This book provides comprehensive coverage of STDs and their prevention and management. This information which is usually very difficult for non-medical health professionals to access should be of enormous benefit to counselors and health educators. -Dr. Charles Watson, Director of Disease Control Health Dept. of Western Australia This book will be read by the age group that most needs it and therefore should be available in every school library. -Dr. Mick Connaughton, Obstetrician/Gynecologist While Jenny's technical knowledge and skills are a matter of record, I think her patients value her most for her empathy, positive encouragement, and compassion in what can only be a difficult time for a patient. These qualities shine through in her writing.

This review is from: Your Sexual Health (Paperback)
Here's what teenagers need to know presented in easy-to-understand, non-judgmental language. I bought it for a niece, and altho' my sister thought the cover was a little, ah, "suggestive," it certainly tells its intended readers that they'll get the straight scoop inside these covers. Last time I heard, the book has been passed to several of her classmates. If it stops one pregnancy or STD it will be worth a hundred thousand times the price. Should be in every high school and public library.
