Fresh, Catchy Pop,

Some other reviews hit this album as being over-produced/over-modulated and lyrically amateurish. I'm not sure exactly what they're referring to, but this album sounds fine to me as far as modulation and quality. Nor would I care too much if wasn't perfect, since I care more about the musicianship and music anyway (i.e., the style, melody, catchiness, lyrical meaning, etc...). As for "lyrically amateurish," that's a pretty vague allegation. The lyrics for this album, which anyone can look up (google) prior to buying the album, are fresh and meaningful while staying fun (avoiding melodrama). If that's "lyrically amateurish," then I guess I'm a fan of amateur lyrics (the horror!).
Regardless, every single song on this album is catchy, and each one is fresh. In other words, it seems to me that many pop albums come with 9-12 songs that by and large are very similar stylistically, with minor variations in melody, tempo, and lyrics. But as another reviewer noted, this album comes with songs stylistically similar to rock, country, and R&B, all while retaining it's pop catchiness. This is the best pop album I've heard, second only to John Hampson's "Shiny New Album." With the ability to look up lyrics and hear pretty much all these songs on youtube prior to buying, I can't see how anyone could be disappointed with it.

i just happened to stumble across this band and i am really glad i did. i am a big fan of calm music to listen to at night or when i am driving and this fits perfectly. When i preview the cd i usually buy it if i like a majority of the songs and that was the case here. Great music.

One of my favorite albums,

ARTTM has produced a well developed, amazingly sung album with so many catchy tunes. I pop in this cd to make me happy, and I always am after I listen to it. There is not one song I dislike, and I can listen to the album for hours. I don't think it's too overly produced; instead, I think it shows that the band is maturing from previous sounds. Yes, Greeting From... EP is withoutadoubt one of the best EPs ever made, but I think that the band has really shown growth with this album and done it flawlessly.
I looove this album :)

This is a great album! I've had it in the CD player in my car since I bought it. I force everyone that rides with me to listen to my music (hey, I'm the driver, I chose!), and now my sister is in love with them too.

I've played "When I'm Gone" hundreds of times this week. The song is so cute, upbeat and jolly. I love u, A ROCKET TO THE MOON! U make my week happy. Mmmmmwwwwaaahhh!!!

A little disappointing, but has some solid tracks.,

For those who are familiar with ARTTM, you should know that this album is quite different from their previous release (Greetings From EP) and nothing like the one man band ARTTM. (Summer EP, Your Best Idea) In my opinion "On Your Side" was over produced and struggles to find its identity as an album. There are a couple of Country/Pop songs titled "Baby Blue Eyes" and "On A Lonely Night." "Sometimes" is also an interesting R&B song. Though the album was a letdown in a lot of ways for me, there are still quite a few solid tracks that made the purchase worth it such as "Mr. Right", "On A Lonely Night", and "Where did You Go?." These tracks are a reminder of how great ARTTM can be.

Talented but needs some lyrical adjustments,

I agree the vocals are similar to owl city and they are very talented, however the lyrics are very amateurish at times and the verses awkwardly connect sometimes. Their acoustic EP was a lot better than this full lenght, it seems rushed and over-produced. Go to their myspace page and listen to Fear of Flying to get a more accurate picture of what this band could be but is nothing like on this album.

Similar vocals to Owl City,
This review is from: On Your Side (Audio CD)
These tunes are pleasant but on the bland side. If you have to choose a harmless pop CD put out by a single guy, definitely go with Owl City's Ocean Eyes over this. However, I'm not knocking this guy for trying. I think his follow up will shine a lot more than this release.

Overmodulated,

Many if not all the tracks sound under produced and amateurish. The lyrics occasionally feel disjointed and the singing is incredibly over modulated.
It feels like the singer is banking on listeners buying into yet another vocoder assisted album but it falls flat. As another reviewer stated. If you're going to get a synthpop album, go with Owl City. |
